Stevo985 Posted August 23, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 23, 2023 Happy with some changes, but not many. Carlos, Tielemans, Duran to start would be a good compromise. Martinez Konsa, Carlos, Pau, Digne DIaby, Tielemans, Luiz, McGinn Duran, Watkins Maybe something like that if we stick with 4-4-2. Or keep Kamara in midfield and put Diaby up top with Watkins

bannedfromHandV
I’d be happy with just getting through tonight without any more injuries. Wonder if the team will be wearing ‘get well soon Philippe’ shirts before kick off this evening.

Chindie Posted August 23, 2023 VT Supporter Share Posted August 23, 2023 It's going to be a harder tie than we expect and need to make sure to avoid the banana skin. Go fairly strong and throttle the life out of the tie as quickly as possible.

Anyone who does, how good are Hibernian? I mean, what kind of standard in England would they be, lower Prem, upper Championship? As a St.Mirren fan, where my team recently beat Hibernian at Easter Road, I would say Hibs would struggle in lower reaches of the Championship. Exciting going forward, particularly at home but really poor at the back. Boyle can definitely hurt most teams with his pace if he is used correctly and in the mood. If you were asking about the standard of St.Mirren, I would say we would win the English Premier League and probably Champions League. We are so good, we had to let John McGinn go as he was bringing us down. Currently we are joint top of SPL and in quarter finals of the League Cup………where Hibernian awaits us. 1

Having watched a bit of English football ( was as at Barnsley last week in div 1 ) I would think Hibs would fit into Div 1 with the present squad., maybe lower third of the Championship but certainly no higher. delboy54
We have as our manager one of the most experienced managers in 2 legged European football competitions ever in charge of the Villa, he knows how to approach this type of game.....

I'm no fan of Olsen and have been praying we sign a stronger second keeper for the cups, but I'd also play him in this. If he plays okay then it'll help his confidence and that of the defence, which seems to be his main issue. And if he does mess up and cost us a goal, this isn't a tie that should be decided by one or two goals. We should be comfortably winning both ties even no matter what Olsen does.

I want Martinez to start this away fixture as regardless of the opposition its a crucial fixture. Get a decent result and Olsen can step in for the home game.

I love these matches. exactly how i feel - i hoped we'd meet in the group stages in stead, but so be it...alas, i hope you have a couple of catastrophic performances, but if not and we get papped out, then i'll be supporting Villa all the way. So delighted that this game gets to happen - apart from anything else, you're going to get the chance to see why SJM talks so highly of his experience of winning the Scottish Cup at Hibs. Our league might not have the money and glitz of the Premier League, but there's good football up here, and no shortage of history, authenticity and passion. I think both sets of fans are going to enjoy themselves, come what may
