You are correct in that our club was formed from Irish immigrants in 1875 ( hence the name ) However any sectarian chants and clinging on to the Irish heritage died out many many decades ago. It is the same with Hearts fans and their allegiance to the protestant cause.. Both teams have their "ultra" groups ( wee laddies) which have around 100 in their numbers who at certain games try to be like mini Celts and 'gers ( local derbies , us v Rangers and Hearts v Celtic) and try to bring up the Catholic v Protestant issue without any understanding about any of the history. However 99.9% of the rest of the fans of both clubs have nothing to do with it. At other games there is no sectarian issues at all. Certainly at Ibrox and Celtic Park to an extent ( and when they both travel away) you will hear a large part of their crowd singing sectarian songs and chants . Look at the tifo Celtic fans had around half the ground at Livingston last Sunday, all dedicated to the 1916 Easter Rising. Scotland has just passed new laws relating to hate and sectarian crime and as Ally McCoist said today that it looks like he and 48,000 others will be arrested at Ibroke next Sunday when they entertain Celtic.

Been there many times in my Villa supporting days and believe me it's nothing like going to Ibroke ( especially if you support a team in green and they believe you are all fenian bas**rds)

(Un) fortunately not now, that is one ground when full with their bigot supporters , singing their sectarian songs I will never go near again. I can think of many places to go where you don't have to listen to them singing about Bobby Sands et al whilst ....."up to my knees in fenian blood" being bombarded with half eaten pies and cups of warm piss

Warnock got his team selection all wrong last night , going with one central defender and 2 wing backs in the back 3. After finding himself 0 . 3 at home inside 30 minutes!, he changed it and they came back to draw 3 . 3. Could have won it when Miovski "scored" but VAR stepped in.........don't you just love it. The Rangers on the other hand were looking to win by 3 clear goals to take them to the top of the table.........at 90 minutes only being 3 . 1 in front the officials managed to find 12 minutes of injury time despite not having all the lengthy VAR calls that were at the Aberdeen game ( where they only played 7 minutes extra) . The VAR officials must have been looking so hard for any minute "infringement" in the Ross box so as to award a penalty! Well done to Simon Murray for scoring the Ross goal, always liked him here at Hibs.

He is actually tenth in the table for penalties behind such players as Shearer, Lampard, del Piero, Ronaldhino et al. VAR has allowed both Celtic and Rangers to be given penalties when they need them most.........ie: as in the Aberdeen game where they were given one 2 minutes into added time in order to get a draw. I'm not saying it wasn't a penalty by the laws of the game as Goldson did get his shirt pulled, however that type of infringement happens at nearly every corner in the League , yet VAR are only ever all over it when one of the uglies need something. On Saturday there were more blatant shirt pulls against Hearts and Miller for Hibs but nothing was looked at or checked..........however if that was Celtic or "The Rangers" they most certainly would have been. Football fans from the rest of the League just want some consistency..........there is actually nothing wrong with VAR but the problem lies with those enforcing it. As for the dives , both are blatant cheating and in my eyes a match ban should be enforced............Cantwell never even got booked! Problem is players often don't even get booked and often they result in a penalty so they will continue to try their luck.........Cantwell in the game before the Aberdeen one went down supposedly brought down by the goalkeeper which replays showed no contact but VAR still gave a penalty to "The Rangers". One final stat for you ........."The Rangers" have had one penalty given against them in 112 League games..........that includes a kick to the head on Joe Newell by the penalty spot by Hagi and a number of Goldson handballs.........all resulting in No Penalty! Now if that had happened at the other end those famous words for those following on Text etc would have come up.........PENALTY TO RANGERS.

Was the regular left back when I first started going down Villa Park in the early 70's. He was already a legend then and even more so now. RIP Charlie , thanks for the memories.

Aye , think he looked for an easier option knowing up here he would have the second biggest budget in a 2 horse race and thought it would be easy street to further his career. At Wolves he could see a hard job in order to compete with many sides in the Premier League. Wolves must be breathing a huge sigh of relief! A number of players and managers come North of the border in order to get a quick stepping stone back up in the English Leagues. Don't think he realised what pressure is put on the managers of both uglies especially if you lose a game to one of the rest of the League never mind two as happened on Saturday v the sheep. He also lost the Celtic game but I felt they were unlucky in that game. Incidentally one player who is taking their chance is Owen Beck, a young lad who is on loan from Liverpool at Dundee FC.........watched him on Saturday against us and he is going to be some player. He plays left back and reminded me a little of Andy Robertson at his parent club and I can see him taking a similar path.

Not directly an ex Villa player but just watched the Killie v Hibs game and they have Kyle Vassell playing up front for them. Thought his style seemed familiar and when I checked he is the cousin of Darius Vassell whom many of you know spent many years at Villa. Darius last I heard was an academy coach at Wolves but whether he is still there I don't know.

Jordan Lyden , the Australian who played 4 games for Villa around 2016 having been at the club since 2012, has joined my "English" club, Hereford FC after being released from Leyton Orient. Think he has struggled with injuries so we will have to wait and see how he copes with the rough and tumble of the National League North! COYB

Correct Rugeley, William McGregor who was from Perthshire before moving to Birmingham and becoming involved as a director etc of Aston Villa chose the colours of Hearts for the body and supposedly a nod to Glasgow Rangers for the blue sleeves. The rampant lion of Scotland was then chosen for the club badge. Both Glasgow Rangers ( now The Rangers) and Villa have the rampant lion on their crest with the mottos "Prepared" for Villa and "Ready" for the Rangers. Both Hearts and Villa were formed in 1874 and originally Hearts played in all white with a maroon heart badge. They then changed to red white and blue hoops and there is a story that after one washing of the kits the colours all ran and the end product was maroon..................true or an urban myth, I don't know! When I came up to Edinburgh in 1974 this history was the reason I chose the green of Hibs as opposed to the maroon of Hearts as I didn't want to support a different side playing in the colours of my Villa. I'll let you off for preferring the JTs

Well done Villa and good luck in the rest of the competition. Still remember my time at Rotterdam in '82 so hope the present day supporters can get that feeling as John McGinn lifts the trophy . This tie was only ever going to be the icing on the cake having somehow beaten Luzern. We never expected anything else but a drubbing against a top ranked side in the Premier League. I read comments about shit Scottish football, Hibs are shit etc etc in the game thread which is always harsh as everything is relative. When you have a half a billion pound squad playing 12 million there is going to be such a gulf between the two sides. Scottish fans are under no illusion as to the standard up here but it still produces competitive Leagues ( excluding the uglies of course) and I still say I have had my best supporting moments up here ( including Rotterdam '82 which was surpassed by May 2016) It was only ever going to be a jolly and there are not many sets of fans that would have filled the away end and sung all night despite being 8 . 0 down. You are privileged to have heard Sunshine On Leith sung during a game (even I've never heard it ) as it is only ever played after a game after an important win. I hope you saw some of the passion from our supporters who despite being outclassed by Villa, managerless, bottom of the League, a poor squad etc etc travelled down to support"The Club" and goes to show that players and managers come and go but the fans are always there ............."if you know your history.........."

Funny that............many are still coming but I haven't spoken to any or read any comments that say that........without having their tongue firmly stuck inside their cheek. On the forums nearly all the talk is about who will be the next manager to pick up the poisoned chalice at Easter Road not that we are still in the tie...............some discussion on what team to play bearing in mind we , like yourselves, have a tough game on Sunday which is more important than tomorrow night. ( which will resemble more of a friendly now)

I suppose the Corporation bus service don't still run "specials" to and from Villa Park from the top of Steelhouse Lane. ? On the same theme, when we didn't go by bus and drove to the ground, we joined a Bingo Club situated in the shadow of the Holte End. We were able to park there have a few games of Bingo and then went to watch the match. Last time I was at Villa Park ( Everton circa 2003?) we parked in a working mans club about 3/4 mile away , joined for the day and enjoyed a few jars in there beforehand.

It's a big part in support for a team in Scotland with most Clubs in the SPL and some in the lower Leagues having them. Although they call themselves "ultras" most are wee laddies and are very good at pavement dancing. They'd struggle to fight their way out of a paper bag tbh ! However, if these are the rules at Villa Park then they have to abide by them. I believe they have now been told they are allowed flags and small banners but no poles, drums etc. Villa fans sat next to the away fans will be glad the drum (s) ( Hibs sometimes have 2) aren't there !

Loss yesterday to Livingston sealed his shoogly peg ended up on the floor. It's been coming and didn't have anything to do with losing 5 goals to Villa........begs the question if Livi can put 3 passed us how come Villa only scored 5. Glad he's gone. See you on Thursday

Thanks Dave , this weekend is really important for Lee Johnson as with only Aberdeen away to come before the break if we lose tomorrow, then next Thursday and take nothing at the Dons ( not a happy hunting ground for us) which will leave us with zero points, then I can see him getting the sack...........cannot come soon enough for most Hibs fans now. Good luck to Villa on the domestic front and in Europe , I think with Emery in charge and the players he has brought in, things are looking good for the future down Aston way.

Funny that as I was next door to the Villa and I never heard it. If you want to do it with style and volume you need to study The Rangers fans ..........they really belt it out and the hibs will respond with gusto
