People have been saying this for ages, but the fact is that Everton, West Ham and recently Newcastle have been shopping at this level for dangerously average players for quite some time. So what we paid for Buendia in 2021 is about the same as what Liverpool paid for Andy Carroll 10 years earlier. And if the talk of it being around £50m for Diaby is correct, we’ve caught up with what Chelsea paid for Torres the same day Dalglish was imagining all those goals Carroll was definitely going to score at the Kop end. The Barca subreddit transfer reliability guide, which'll be accurate for Spanish sources as a whole, has them at Tier 5.
