£50m seems like the new £25m, prices for average players have sky rocketed.

People have been saying this for ages, but the fact is that Everton, West Ham and recently Newcastle have been shopping at this level for dangerously average players for quite some time.

Prices have been ridiculous for a number of seasons. They won't ever reduce so we might as well front up to it.

I tend think of our transfer fees in terms of notable transfers that happened at that price and how long ago it was.

So what we paid for Buendia in 2021 is about the same as what Liverpool paid for Andy Carroll 10 years earlier. And if the talk of it being around £50m for Diaby is correct, we’ve caught up with what Chelsea paid for Torres the same day Dalglish was imagining all those goals Carroll was definitely going to score at the Kop end.

We have spent some decently big transfer fees most windows haven't we?  Assuming anything over £25m is a big fee.

Buendia - £33m + £5m add-ons

Pau Torres - £31.5m

Ollie Watkins - £28m + £5m add-ons

Leon Bailey - £28m

Danny Ings - £25m + £5m add-ons

Diego Carlos - £26m

Lucas Digne - £25m

Considering we paid over 30m for Buendia and Watkins, who had very limited top level experience and were not capped for their countries, the Diaby fee of £45-50m isn't over the top. He is a French international, with a load of european and top flight Bundesliga experience and plays in a position where prices are at a premium. He is also one of the fastest players in Europe.

Mason Mount recently transferred for £60m. Mason Mount.

Sixty. Million. Pounds.

All true but what do you expect? It was Manure and they previously spent £80m on Maguire.

Last year of his contract too wasn't it?    Still think it's steep for Diaby but I've never seen him play so trust Unai.

And we sold Chuk to Chelsea for £25mil when he had barely played first team football.

We are going to need to play £50mil for players like Diaby now it would appear.

arethe owners prepared to do that

£15m plus £5m add-ons which don't look like they are going to be acheived.

Was going to say, I love when quoting a sale we always add on a couple of million to make it sound like we did better 🤣

Could it be? Leak from Monchi?

El Nacional are absolutely awful, sadly. The Barca subreddit transfer reliability guide, which'll be accurate for Spanish sources as a whole, has them at Tier 5. There's also the question of why a Spanish outlet would be the one to break the exclusive about a French player in Germany going to an English club

Especially after Sky said we paid £45m for Torres and still say he’s our record buy
