The modern full back doesn't really play crosses. The full back is usually playing the ball inside is what most are doing now like Cancelo or Kimmich TAA is probably the exception as he is a brilliant crosser

I’m still not sure what our scouting department are up to. Aren’t they supposed to be unearthing these players when they are bargains? Problem with this approach is the players often need time and can also turn out to be shit. For every great player found on the cheap you end up with 5 flops and get what you paid for. A Brighton for example could go with this approach and the fans would happily give those bargain players a chance. That just ain’t going to happen at Villa and we all know it.

Every single club in the country missed out on him, so it's hardly an issue confined to Aston Villa. We have a very good academy, which is where he would have ended up had we bought him at that price, so it's not as if we aren't trying to find them young?

Regarding crosses I think its difficult to compare Cancelo and TAA, since they play in two different systems. Pep wants his full backs to cut inside towards the penalty box while the wide forwards keeps the width. Klopp wants it the opposite with full backs keeping the width.. Having seen so far what Gerrard wants tactically, we should probably aim at someone who have some capability to cross, since our full backs keeps the with while the forwards go more centrally. Targett and Cash do attempt quite a few crosses, they are just... how can I say it. Pretty sub-optimal! Still trust that Gerrard and Lange/whoever supports this get it right! And his lack of pace and bad touch (in the video) were my other worries, and they're pretty important. With pace, the last player's Youtube that had a low-pace red flag was Buendia's, and I think it is the main thing holding him back at this level. Popular Post Mazrim
A Hickey, you're so fine. You're so fine you blow mind. A Hickey... Unless you don't sign, in which case, never mind. 1 1

Do as you wish! It's not like these teams of professionals ever make a mistake though. I openly said I was basing it on his YouTube, and my real comment is his Bologna YouTube isn't very impressive. It is only a YouTube though of course. Edited January 6, 2022 by Rolta
The Fun Factory
Bologna is kind of the Italian equivalent of Villa so should feel at home.
sne
If the Coutinho deal is very short term thinking then the Hickey deal would be the opposite. Guy is 19 y.o

Popular Post Ccjambo Posted January 6, 2022 Visiting Supporter Popular Post Share Posted January 6, 2022 Hearts fan here: bit of insight to how he is as a player. Made his first team debut in our 2-1 cup final defeat to celtic in 2019. Arguably our man of the match. At 16. Very very composed on the ball even then and very good with both feet. Always finds feet with the ball. Been impressed to see he has improved his attacking and gets forward more. Definitely developed much more physically since leaving us - to be expected. Occasionally lost the odd 1 on 1 against wingers but again he's improved defensively and physically so isn't a problem anymore. Could play either side or even centre mid as far as I'm concerned as he is the definition of composure personified on the ball. I'd imagine he would only make this move now though if guaranteed first team football. He's done well to edge Dijks out for the first team this season as it is so I'd be surprised if he did leave this window. Potentially in the summer. Very grounded individual to boot. Big future ahead. Just glad he went to bologna and not celtic again even he left us. Sure we get 10% of any fee which is a nice wee boost as well. 3
