Has anyone got an account with the Athletic? What does the full article say?

Spoiler

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, central to the club's Wembley triumphs in the FA Cup final against Chelsea and Community Shield against Liverpool, will not form part of the matchday squad for the visit to Fulham on Saturday, report Adam Crafton and James McNicholas. The Athletic understands the decision has been taken jointly by Arsenal and Martinez as he is at the centre of an intensifying transfer saga and is now very close to leaving the club, with a move to Aston Villa most likely.

How much are Arsenal demanding?

Arsenal’s former Head of Football Raúl Sanllehi informed Martinez’s representatives earlier this summer that the club would demand £20 million to sell a goalkeeper whose reputation was seriously enhanced following Bernd Leno’s injury absence towards the end of last season.

Martinez initially feared this price would prove prohibitive to potential buyers, particularly clubs in Spain.

Leeds were one club who previously considered Martinez but they were reluctant to commit £20 million on a player with a very small sample of work to analyse at the highest level.

How did Aston Villa’s interest materialise?

As the window progressed, Aston Villa’s initially tentative interest in the player grew stronger and over the past week, a second bid of £15 million, plus £4 million in add-ons, was refused.

A third bid will be higher and should be enough to seal the deal and Martinez’s representatives have spent the past three days in London thrashing out terms with Arsenal and Aston Villa.

There is a further complication, as Martinez, who earns only £20,000-per-week at Arsenal, believes he is owed a seven-figure bonus by the club. This is because contract renewal talks have been postponed several times, first following his loan spell to Reading, then due to the new arrival of Mikel Arteta as manager, then due to COVID-19.

Martinez and his representatives believe the club committed to retroactively paying the player upon the agreement of a new deal and, even in the event he leaves, he believes he should be due a payment by Arsenal.

Could Brighton make a late offer?

Brighton sources have denied the club have made a formal offer for Martinez. But sources close to the player believe an option separate to Aston Villa remains on the table on Friday evening.

In the case of Brighton, it would appear unlikely, given goalkeeper Mat Ryan is firmly established. The Athletic has been told Ryan has had no information to suggest his position will change this season and the Australian does not have a move in the pipeline as things stand this summer.

As such, given Martinez will only leave Arsenal to be the No. 1 goalkeeper elsewhere, Brighton does not seem to be a prime destination.

Who do Arsenal want to sign as a replacement?

Arsenal are admirers of David Raya, but Brentford do not want to sell.

“I said one week ago that if the price is right for Ollie Watkins or Said Benrahma, we are open, because that’s the way football works”, manager Thomas Frank said at his press conference on Friday. “The rest are not for sale.”

However, Arsenal have not given up hope of persuading Brentford to come to the negotiating table and The Athleticunderstands Raya would be very keen on the move.

well the word is the same as here, same knowledge as you guys here, and the links are as reliable as it gets at the moment, of course it can be true, but i wouldn't wonder if they are just fake because BILD in Germany is like the Sun in England, spreading news hoping they get it right once ...

some of the fans in Worum are saying sell for 18 million but most of them hoping to get 23-25 million + some kind of Boni

my gut tells me actually it could be happening and Rashica choose to go to Villa

Do you think Rashica would suit English football? How does he like to receive the ball, to get the best from him.

How come theres so many gifs of him dancing about in the Bremen kit? Think this is the 3rd one I've seen!

Is there some kind of contractual obligation for him to be dancing about? Is it a common thing in German football?

No way would I agree to make a pratt out of myself if I was a multimillionaire

It’s got something to do with the strength of their pornography

I have a question for you that a lot of people on here have been talking about....

He plays on the left most of the time but what is he like playing on the right?

he can play on both sides but left is his stronger side, because he can go into the inside (like Robben did at Munich) and shoot

I think it will suit him very well to be honest he has some good moves to give himself some space to take advantage of his pace, but sometimes he wants to do much "solo" and gets stuck and he likes to play together with a teammate as well so he can go deep.

most of the time he can only be stopped by fouls

*i can't post anything anymore because i reached my maximum posting for today...
