Ollie Watkins

Really should be ollie as only taking 2 strikers is a recipe for disaster. GS seems to see him as a winger for some bizarre reason though,  and he would rightly prefer Lingard in that role. If he wants flexibility from his backup picks, Watkins offers that.

Kiwi you don’t need to dismiss something as ‘nonsense’ just because you disagree with it. Manners cost nothing.

Clearly I do think he would suit our system, and be a great part of our midfield or I wouldn’t have suggested it. He’s a lovely player.

‘He only scored a goal and an assist more than Traore’ - well firstly Traore had a pretty good return, so that’s not nothing, and secondly he would have scored more for us than he did for Southampton because we win a ton more free kicks than they do, which we almost exclusively shank off into the stands. Even Jack said yesterday we have no good set piece takers at Villa and so it means him getting fouled isn’t that helpful. I think a specialist set piece taker would really help that and that adding ~10 more goals into our team from midfield would probably have us crack top six.

You can disagree with all of that but no point really as it was just a throwaway comment - we aren’t in the mix to sign him. But you don’t need to be rude about it even if you don’t rate a player as highly as someone else.

We've been absolutely trash at it this season gone.

While it would be great to get that sorted and have some goals flood in off set pieces I feel unless we were to proper splash out, we would most likely end up with another Hourihane show. You know the whole he's good at set pieces but his spot is wasted in the field and a player that goes missing. We need to find someone who can provide set pieces and ace ones at that all while continuing to have excellent games for us.

Don't ask me who to being in who would be an excellent candidate for that role because it would have to be a fortune spent.

Imagine how many he would of been on if officials and Var hadn't of scrubbed a fair few out.

He has fed off scraps for alot of the season, he should have the nickname the ScrapMan. Now I have Scatmans world song in my head but just retitled as ScrapMans world.

He's done an amazing job.

He's on the back of my next shirt and not just because he's scored goals but because of the man and player he is on the pitch and his whole game of pressure for Villa.

Love his attitude.

He really does score all types of goal doesn’t he. Tap ins, headers, either foot. Nothing from outside the box I suppose is the only kind missing. I love him.

His second goal against Liverpool was in my opinion goal of the season by a mile - he orchestrated it from our own half and finished with a solo run and belting it into the top corner. I mean we all know it was a great goal but I’m not sure it gets quite enough credit!

He’s excellent and has everything to be our no. 1 CF for years to come, I’ve never seen a player who works so tirelessly but also has the talent & technical ability to go with it. Looking forward to see him improve further too, what an outstanding debut season!

Wouldn’t want to see him shifted to the wing (and it would be nice if he didn’t have to wander away from the CF position as much), we just need to increase the quality and rate of deliveries for him to stick in the back of the net. He could easily get 20+ goals a season if we have enough quality players to supply him…

He nearly had 20+ goals this season. So many shots that should’ve gone in but either being unlucky or just a little inaccurate cost him.

GS seems to have a problem with this, it's not the first time he struggled to see where a player plays but uses the excuse or own his reasoning and labels them as playing somewhere else.

He's got that Bruce Gene in him, wonder if he's a Bruce long lost son.

Agreed, hit the post/bar a few times and he some terrible decisions from VAR & refs 💰 go against him…

Felt sorry for him after Jack got injured, barely had any service and was just forced into constantly chasing down and harassing defenders & trying to make chances for himself. Was very frustrating to see us (mainly McGinn) just boot it long for Ollie to chase, we must avoid that next season and, with some added quality, focus on our passing game and build up play. Ollie is going to thrive here and become a genuine hero for the fans… we just need to feed him and he will score.

I honestly don’t think people realise just how poor of a manager Southgate is. I think we’re going to find out the hard way in a few weeks time..

I’d love it if Big Sam was in charge still. I think he’s a character, a Mike Bassett type that we could all get behind and I think he’d bring some passion to the position.

Southgate seems to think he’s some sort of student of the game with all these really fancy ideas. Like the daft 3-5-2 formation he kept playing with 3 right backs on the pitch.

I f***** hate him as our manager.

I feel that if Southgate manages to win this comp it will be by luck.

Part of me hopes we win the competition yet the other part of me, I'd love nothing more but to see Gareth lose the job because I feel he is wrong in the role. Maybe I'm prepared to see us lose the comp to get rid of GS so we can have someone come in that's a fair bit more clear in his plans and ideas. Many people who say he's not biased one bit but I believe he still is in favour of the so called big six clubs. He is certainly someone who does make the wrong picks based on some biased approach at times. He also seems to skip the obvious choices even if all the stats and evidence have hit him in then face for players who have been far less convincing in there season.

I never rated him as an England manager. Whether we were in the championship or not I remember the uproar from everyone on here in how he were with Grealish and all that he was saying. For some reason all that seems to of been forgotten, yet he's now done exactly the same to Konsa and Watkins. He says it's not an agenda against Villa but it certainly feels like it.

The only reason I feel he has softened his ways is because the pressure from his higher ups, fans and media has possibly made him change the way he is. But I can't prove that pressure made him change towards Grealish, whether it were from media, fans or his Gaffers, I just think it he's moved onto doing it to others now.

Ithink you look at those who have been chosen instead of Watkins or Konsa and there are a couple you can easy say it's madness as to why they were chosen over our Lads.

You are not the only one who doesn't rate SouthGate.

Fingers crossed Rashford or dcl get a muscle tear tonight, Rushford has been off form for a good while and for some bizarre reason is named captain ?

No doubt to appease saint Rushford of school dinners, media fans.

With respect, if Big Sam was in charge I would vomit until I died of dehydration.

I thought Watkins wasn't in the competition, thought Southgate wernt taking him?

If he's now I because of some unluckyness to some player then I am gladbbecause he looked just more lively and alert than the subs who went off.

Can someone fill me in please as to why Watkins was on tonight thx.

The players that didn't make the cut stay with the team through the friendlies. They don't leave until the Euros start. White, Godfrey, Lingard and JWP (although one of the latter two will probably get picked to take TAAs place) aren't going either and they all played today.

Thanks very much.

So there's no chance Watkins could still be taken now? He played better than our strikers in the little time he had onthe field.

Southgate you ballzed it up man.

I think he's 3rd option behind JWP and Lingard. Southgate could always surprise us and pick Ollie but I highly doubt it.
