We in seventeenth are ten points behind Man Utd in sixth place, at the same stage last season after twenty-five games last season, Burnley in seventeenth place were twenty-three points behind Arsenal in sixth place. Which goes to show how many points some of the so called 'top six' sides have been dropping this season,  Chelsea at this point last season had nine more points than they have now, Spurs had twenty-three more than they have now, Man Utd had thirteen more points, and Arsenal had seventeen more points.

If Spurs beat Man City today suddenly they will be in fifth place and just four behind Chelsea, so will feel they have everyting to play for against us, not to mention the confidence they'd get from beating a team like City. But then again it wouldn't be unlike them to win today, and then go and lose to us, so can't read too much into it.

Update for @OutByEaster?:

Just spend a spare ten minutes bored by the Egg chasing doing West Ham's predictions.

Got them finishing on 37 points. Interesting thing is I have them beating us on the final day.

Given them 3 wins out of their last six home games (they've won 3 at home all season) and two draws.

Just two draws away. Defeats at Man. City, Liverpool, Man. United and Norwich. Draws at Arsenal and Newcastle.

Suggests we can be safe if we get to 38 points by end of Arsenal game.

How many points did you give West Ham out of interest?

Spurs doesn't look great and Kane is injured.

Pretty good time to play them actually.

Beating the champions who hammered us at home. We don’t stand a chance.

To be fair it has been a smash and grab.

70 % possession to Man City.

2-14 in shots

Then again we always lose against the top sides. Always.

With the exception of Man Utd and they are being coached by a guy that relegated Cardiff. (i don't really count Leicester since the is no pressure in the cup. No points at stake)

Yeah, I always got the impression Spurs will sometimes turn up against teams they're not expected to beat and then fall flat on their arse the game after, usually against a team they're expected to beat quite effortlessly. Could be mistaken, of course.

No idea - I've done another one today and we went down with Norwich and Bournemouth after Brighton won on the last day to survive with 36 points.

Must've given them close to 40 points. Guess you have them winning most of their home games given they away schedule.

Spurs are quite decent at home, only two they've lost at home all season under Pochettino and Mourinho were Newcastle right at the start and Chelsea over xmas.

7 wins out of 13 is pretty good outside the top 2.

They're not as good away from home though. Two wins all season and Son has scored one away goal all season in the league.

Well that's the point I was making in my last sentence of that post... Tottenham drew with City at the Eitiad earlier in the season, next game they lost at home to Newcastle. They've also not been great away from home this season, it's going to be an hard fixture, it would have been whatever happened today, but we can still beat them.

Tottenhan have only taken three more points away from this season than we have. Their away form is also worse by six points than our home form.

We’ve put ourselves into a position where we can no longer say ‘a loss against spurs won’t be the reason we go down’, referencing the need to only beat the teams around you.

We’ve failed to beat the teams around us on too many occasions this season and so we now need to beat the likes of Spurs and Arsenal at home. They’re not ‘must wins’ but it’s going that way..

Totally agree. Minus Liverpool and to some extent City, the "big six" is all over the place. There were far too many excuses when we threw away a lead to lose against ten man Arsenal. Arsenal are awful and look more like going down than making the top six.

Of course losing to better teams doesn't define your season, but you need to pick up the odd win against them here and there. Our records against both the "big six", and the current top 11, are terrible, worst in the league. We need to find a way to beat these teams after losing twice to Bournemouth, and to Watford, Southampton and Palace.

Just beating the teams around us was never going to be enough, if you consider the bottom six beside ourselves, to be 'the teams around us', then even if we somehow managed to beat all of those, that would still only be eighteen points for the whole season. The reason we're not in the bottom three now is because we've taken four points off Burnley (11th), beat Newcastle (12th), and Everton (9th), and also drew with Man Utd (7th). Hopefully us beating Leicester in the cup will give us some confidence that we can beat some of the so called 'top six' teams as well.

Agree but I do think we should fancy ourselves at home to beat some of the likes of Spurs/Arsenal/Man U/Chelsea/Wolves etc.

Obviously we probably won’t beat all of them but no reason we can’t get another 12 or so points from our home games.

We’ve played 4 out of the top 5 in the away table at home already and they were our 4 home defeats since the first home defeat against Bournemouth, which was unlucky.
