I can see MotD being cancelled altogether tomorrow night, or maybe even just show the highlights without presenters whilst they use next week to 'sort' all this out and back down.

The disgraceful handling of this by the Beeb aside, one of the big downsides for the career pundits is people might realise just how little the bland opinions of the hosts and pundits actually add. MOTD the same length, with more highlights and no "analysis"? Yes please.

At this rate it'll get presented by Piers Morgan, Tommy Robinson and Laurence Fox....

Even Piers is backing Lineker

This is a storm the BBC and Tories weren’t ready for. I love it.

Im hoping someone goes on and trashed the whole things being anti government at every turn.

Or someone so clearly pro government it’s like North Korean TV

as much as i love the solidarity and totally understand and agree with their reasons, it's still a sad day.

we've all grown up with MOTD in our lives (aside from that weird period of the premiership on ITV). by the time it airs i've already watched the highlights for each PL game on sky app or youtube yet i still tune in but this feels like the end...certainly of MOTD as we have known it for a long time. linekar, shearer, wright and richards are all such likeable chaps and when they talk you can tell they've at least brushed up on a little knowledge of the teams they're talking about, unlike a lot of the sky guys who don't watch anyone other than the scum 6

Well this has become a mountain out of a molehill hasn't it? My two peneth is that it never ceases to amaze me in a world where real big news is actually happening all the time that the media manage to blow up what is at it's core a nothing story. I suppose this all comes down to what contracts say, but I cannot understand why someone having an opinion is such an issue. Was it clever, no, but does it matter? No. As far as I am aware Lineker is not a historian who specialises in Early 20th century European history, so what? People on social media say stupid things all the time.

For me I am much more irritated by the BBC, who is publicly funded, paying Lineker £1.5 million a year for his services when I'm pretty sure they could find a better presenter with more personality for a fraction of that cost. Personally I just don't rate him as a presenter so I would love for the BBC to look for a younger alternative, maybe if they really want to do some good a female host to take it forward. I bet that would really cause a storm.

What he said was pretty much factually correct. There was certainly nothing un-clever or stupid about it.
