I remember whilst channel hopping  for Asian porn on the hotel room tv in Cambodia , seeing a TV advert where this woman goes for a job interview and gets turned down , buys this magic formula skin whitening cream and goes back for the interview next day and gets the job

Was it the Met Police advertising?

Also, cream for whitening your skin is a big thing in SE/NE Asia. Lighter skin is seen as desirable and a sign of wealth and prosperity.

I believe the same in India as well as darker skin is associated with outdoor manual work and lighter skin means a better indoor job.

I have always been amazed when my colleagues have expressed the opinion that they thought lighter skin was better.

Black skin can look fantastic, particular when it is moisturised and contrasted with certain colours.

I've lived in Asia for a while, and pretty much every single lotion/cream you can buy has some kind of "whitening" ingredient. It's actually kind of sad that it's so embedded in the culture that corporations (I'm talking even big ones like Nivea/Neutrogena) are profiting off of it.

Some years ago, a friend of mine did some babysitting for an African family in Leeds. They had three little girls, the elder two of which were allowed to play outside, the youngest wasn't. My friend reported the following conversation with the little 'un:

"You'll be able to play out when you're a bit older"

"Yes, when I'm grown up, and I'm white"

"Err... you won't actually be white - your mummy's not white, is she?"

(Wistfully) "She is a little bit white..."

One of the saddest things I've ever heard.  :(

I think I’ve done something which could be misconstrued today. I’m probably overthinking it but I have to admit in todays climate I’m a little bit worried.

Backstory: Chap with his dog (staffie thats never on a lead) who he repeatedly lets shit everywhere (road/paths/grass) and never picks it up. Huge poops every time. He doesn’t live where the dog keeps crapping near our house but about a 2 minute walk away by the main road. I’ve reported it to the council using the online form and I’ve described the dog and then described himself as I don’t know his name or where he lives exactly. I said he was a black man with long dreadlocks purely for identification purposes if they need to find him but I’m worried it could be taken out of context by someone reading the complaint form.

Well you reported it to the council, so the chance of anyone actually reading it is slim 😜

Few racial comments between Khan and Brook earlier, crossed the line, it wasn't banter.

Sky ennit. Yet again looking under stones for racism in sport.

It has to be said that when someone I know made a complaint about someone to the police, and described the person as a 'traveller', which was how the person had described themselves, the police told him he was being racist.

Ah travellers.

All crying because of a Jimmy Carr joke and protesting at his gigs.

People might have a bit of sympathy if they didn't turn every place they invade into a **** war zone and constantly break into land they aren't supposed to be on.

And the blacks, they’re all just as bad.

Don’t even get me started on Jews and homosexualites.

Nothing to do with Sky. Amir Khan said it was racist and presumably they've reported on that.

What don't you have sympathy about? The joke? Their mass extermination in the holocaust? Seems a strange sort of thing to have conditional sympathy for.

Have you ever seen a local park after they've destroyed it and shat everywhere?

That's disgusting.

I'm going to protest outside your next gig.

While Wimbledon's on, I thought this was really good. As a white person, you don't notice it until someone tells you, but it's so true that white athletes (especially white men) are celebrated for being dicks in a way that non-white athletes get crucified for.

I hope it has improved a lot since Arthur Ashe's day, but it's still definitely double standards.
