Explaining Why Juventus Are So Willing To Swap Miralem Pjanic For Barcelona's Arthur Melo

What also makes sense is the financials of the deal. On paper, Barcelona are said to be paying €70 million for Pjanic, while younger man Arthur is costing Juve €80 million, which looks to work out as a swap deal plus €10 million cash from the Bianconeri. However, FFP rules mean that both clubs will be able to report €60 million profit on their books, due to player amortisation.

Barca paid €30 million for Arthur in 2018 on a six-year deal, meaning that his value decreases by €5 million per year in terms of FFP. Therefore, he is now worth €20m in terms of their accounting, meaning a sale for the equivalent of €80 million means the Catalan side can show a €60 million profit.

Similarly, Pjanic arrived in Turin from Roma for €35 million in July 2016 on a five-year contract, meaning his FFP value reduces by €7m per year, leaving €21 million in value on the books after two years when he was handed a new five-year contract by the club. The remaining €21 million is then divided by five and therefore reduces by €4.2 million per year, and currently leaving €13 million in value on Juve’s accounts. A €70 million sale therefore leaves a tidy €57 million profit for the Old Lady.

Premier League are going to charge newly promoted clubs 8 million for entering tge league as they try to recover Covid 19 losses

Ridiculous! Yet they will get away with it as 8 million is probably less than 10% of what the prompted clubs will get for being in the PL.

My love for Villa will never wane but my love of football has diminished and will probably continue to do so.

So the 5 substitutes will continue into next season it’s been confirmed, which basically means it’s here to stay now, thus a further advantage for those with big squads of good players.

Apparently for ‘player welfare’, nothing to do with protecting their precious big clubs of course.

The 5 subs rule is **** ridiculous.

Completely favours the big clubs. We already had expanded benches which massively favours them too. But the 5 subs just makes it even more biased.

Even Carragher was ranting last night about how stupid the rules was.

Great news for Man City, they could field 2 teams and get both into the CL places.

Other teams like Man United and Liverpool have great first 12-15 players but nobody has the depth across the pitch like City.

Exactly. If a team like Villa were holding Man City for an hour and they can just bring on Aguero, Sterling, Foden, Bernardo Silva and Sane with fresh legs what chance do we have?

I think we should still be at a bench of 5 max with 3 subs.

The more options you give the easier it is for big teams. Part of football should be picking your subs. Your defender is having a bad game? uh oh you've got none on the bench so you'll have to be creative.

These days if anyone from Man City is having a bad game Pep can turn to his 7 world class players on his bench, a keeper, two defenders, 2 midfielders and 2 attackers and do whatever he wants. It's ludicrous.

It’ll change the game for sure. Like you have said, City will just hold back their big guns against bottom half sides for a 20 minutes blitz at the end of needed.
