The Game's Gone

Not saying it makes it wonderful but there's a bit more to it than that.

Firstly, FC Andorra (the team in question) did win their league in the fifth tier last season.

Furthermore, there was an available place in the third tier and the payment was required of any team to take it.

They've also played in 2B before - throughout most of the eighties and nineties - but fell into financial difficulties.

Obviously it's not nice to hear that a team has 'bought' a place in a league but I'd imagine that's how it works anywhere.

Gérard Pique team has paid £400000 to be promoted to Spanish 3rd tier. They were playing 5th division last season

Hmm. Better or worse than Fiorentina being promoted for 'sporting merit'?

The regional Spanish leagues are insane, you can win your league and still go into a playoff, and win your playoff and still not be promoted. And Spain and Italy both make clubs pay costings upfront from what I have heard on both the Tifo and On the Contient podcasts.

Isn't that basically what Arsenal did? Regardless that whole tale is beyond corrupt

Yep it's not corrupt

The problem is that they can do it not that they did

Not really a stick to beat pique with either, the rules let him do it, im sure the utd lot would do it with Salford too if they had the chance

Shambles, total shambles.

Total confusion - still no CL winner

Two months ago the African Champions League final was played.

But no one still knows which team is the champion.

This despite the fact that the case was up in Cas, the sports arbitration court.

The rounds of the final of the African Champions League have been many, chaotic and bizarre - and it all started last May in the final return for 60,000 spectators in Dakar.

Moroccan Wydad were down by 1-2 overall against Tunisian Esperance, when Walid El Karti nodded the receipt - but the goal was sent off. The Wydad players wanted the VAR to be used just as it did in the first final meeting - but the system was out of order, something that the judges knew but not the players.

Wydad protested and refused to continue playing - after 95 minutes of waiting, the referee made the decision to award Esperance the victory and the title without the final being played.

But - a few days later, Caf, the African Football Association, forced the Tunisians to send back the trophy and medals, and decided that the final should be replayed on neutral ground. Both clubs appealed the decision to Cas, the sports arbitration tribunal, and both Esperance and Wydad considered that they should be named champions and receive the prize money.

Now Cas believes that the African Football Association Executive Committee did not have the authority to order the final replay - and rescind the decision.

Aberdeen Europa League opponents yesterday travelled from Georgia to Qatar, then Qatar to Edinburgh then took a bus to Aberdeen. Probably cost them the entire prize money

Unsurprisingly lost 5-0

We dont have a positive football thread but Leipzig get a lot of stick but they had a really nice event post game for the fans today.

Brought the entire squad out, interviewed a few including Lookman. Then kicked some footballs to the fans. Was nice touch and can't imagine some Premier League ckubs doing it.

Bournemouth want more than £75m for Ake. WTF.

This will be Leicester's problem now. Any player they go for the price is instantly jacked up becuase the sellers know they're minted. They're either going to have to pay silly money or look abroad for cheaper options.

Brighton slapped an extra 5m on Dunk within minutes of Maguire becoming almost official.

This is the way it works in Australian basketball outside the top tier. The second and third tier are not guaranteed promotion even if they win the league.

You apply to the association and give your business model, including information on your squad and the potential it has to compete in a higher division.

The association makes the final decision. The fee for joining a higher league is obviously higher than for a lower division, and all teams pay the same fee.

Hardly corrupt, unless I'm missing something.
