  1. Hi all - Was just browsing here during my break at work - I checked some of your threads during the Villa v Wolves match but didn't post as felt the last thing you needed was to talk to a Wolves fan! I have actually completely given up reading the Wolves sites now since lockdown, This is the best season in my life time and having any sort of exposure to the negative Wolves fans just lessens that. Arsenal did a really good job of pressing Wolves and not allowing the possession to be built from the back. Wolves had a good spell 2nd half but then Arsenal readjusted. I actually thought Villa did an okay job of that against Wolves up to the first drinks break, but then lost their way when Wolves pushed the Wingbacks wider. The new breaks/Qtrs thing is quite interesting to me in that you are seeing that a lot. In regards to the comment above about Coady, I actually think he is Wolves most vital player, purely for what he offers as the cover man and ball player, I have explained it to others that ask that he isn't a CB or a Sweeper, he is more like a much less talented version of what De Rossi used to do for Italy when they played him in the back 3. He is there to control and move the play, both Boly and Saiss try it but neither hit the wingbacks the way Coady does. Still loads to do, agree Nuno is the most important piece. This is our early stage of Southampton when they had that okay run, they replaced the first manager but lost their way eventually.
  2. Last I was here I was moaning about the dodgy signing and Traore being awful. Well Traore has been superb in his last two outings and been showing all the things I said he would never be able to do, and the lad I thought was a clear scam, looks really good. I think I will keep all other opinions to myself for a while! Last night was superb watching Wolves in a proper European contest. Enjoyed the others but this was different. Slightly disappointed the tie is still as close as it is as Wolves were superb. On a side note looking forward to finally seeing Villa properly this evening. My Villa mate is already having a confidence wobble after your start, but got faith you are better than at least 3 of the other sides once you get going.
  3. Lazio were locked into the deal to buy them. It would appear Wolves has paid 26 million euros for the pair! If that doesn't make Wolves fans reel their necks in for a bit on twitter in terms of mouthing off at other clubs, nothing will. Many already going down the next Ruben Vinagre route, who had played 1 game for Monaco when Wolves spent 2 million on him. However the difference is obviously the fee. And one of them is already older than Vinagre is now!
  4. Yeah it's weird. Especially the statement from Thelwell who is head of recruitment, who basically said they were talented youngsters but didn't mention the fee, what role they will have etc. One of them is a winger too so straight away is a position we don't have a need for! Plus Nuno has said several times that 18 out fielders is his ideal squad and he prefers things small that way. We were at 17 and then signed 2 guys who we are told not to expect play, but are significantly more fee wise than anyone we would sign for the u23 development pool. It's one of the reasons I dont hold grudges over the sides who moaned about Wolves transfer practices. Happy to benefit as a fan but not audacious enough to completely ignore it.
  5. Not that it matters but on the wolves forum (it's actual name) - there is no dedicated Villa thread. The problem with only looking at Molmix, is its a bit like saying all Christians are insane lunatics because there is always one in every town centre, shouting about the rapture whilst wearing a sandwich board. That signing of those two new lads makes my face hurt, and it bothers me that it doesn't bother other Wolves fans. However some of them (twitter and FB crowd) have been telling me I know nothing about football because I said Adama Traore is a massive L for the scouting department. So maybe it's a good thing I don't share the same thoughts as them. He was beyond woeful last night against that Irish side, part of me hopes that was some sort of final go, similar to like happened to a few of the inherited players when Nuno first took over.
  6. Milan were after the funds for signing those other targets and have made it pretty clear they didn't want Cutrone (or viewed him as sellable) and have had issues with ffp which is why they aren't in the Europa, which seems to be one of the reasons. This actually seems to be one of the strengths currently, Neves Wolves got cheap as Porto were in a similar situation. Mouriniho looks a bargain at 5mil but Monaco wanted his high wages off their budget. Great for us as we previously had a huge drop off everytime Jota or Jimimez were taken off, not its lessened.
  7. The regional Spanish leagues are insane, you can win your league and still go into a playoff, and win your playoff and still not be promoted. And Spain and Italy both make clubs pay costings upfront from what I have heard on both the Tifo and On the Contient podcasts.
  8. That's an interesting and terrifying read. I understand the natural reaction to be defensive and guarded about your clubs owners, sometimes I get like that with the Wolves owners, even though I am wary of being too positive about them it rankles me when fans of other clubs try to use it to target you. Particularly when it's Liverpool fans for example as if being owned by a US sports conglomerate, who have a lot of people who massively profited from the banking collapses involved with them, is somehow more noble than being owned by a company with ties to the Chinese state and government. I wish football was more fan owned but we have truly crapped the bed on that.
  9. Well I was merely trying to point out that my expectations are realistic.
  10. With Cutrone coming in Wolves have actually now strengthened based on last season though now TRO so I would be mostly confident about beating you, despite my lack of knowledge and the amount of new signings making you a relative unknown. Very interested to see how you guys start but still happy with my 6th-11th sort of area prediction for Wolves again. Not fussed about the cups as much and will take what we get in regards to that, however would take finishing in that area and then getting to the group stages of the Europa or beyond as a success.
  11. Massively dislike molmix so not surprised fans of other clubs hate it. Convinced that is where all the lunatics who used to post inane bollocks on the 606 forums all went! Terrible site. Wasn't convinced with Traore the other night myself . He is exciting as a spectator but he makes the coach in me infuriated so not sure how Nuno doesn't want to strangle him. He stands completely still off the ball and when he gets it he slows to an utterly crawl before acceleration and beating his man, which means all the other players have either stopped or been marked. Continually beating a part time fullback making his debut for Crusaders isn't enough for me. Prem fullbacks will see through him in about 3 minutes. He is an 18million pound version of Joe Mason for me, has zero actual position you can identify that adds a genuine strength overall to the team. People act like being in training with Nuno and the team is the answer. I did grassroots scouting for Rotherham briefly and am also a teacher and all the intangibles that the FA player identification teach you to look for, are what Troare doesn't have, and loads of pupils listen and follow what you teach, but still can't put it into practise wifhout you.
  12. Wolves owners seem to operate in a different manner to a lot of the Chinese financed companies. A friend of mine works in finance acquirement for huge firms for some sort of 3rd party (not going to lie, I don't understand what he actually does) and had a few companies he works with really struggle when their Chinese investors got told by the government to cut their overseas spending. He told me his company looked at Fosun to try and work out why they seemed immune to it and as mentioned above it seemed to be that they already had significant amounts outside China, and they invest huge amounts inside it so they are almost given the blind eye. They said when they took Wolves over they were impressed by the current facilities and academy as well as the brand. And a few reports have emerged that they aren't looking to waste money even though they want success. Which is why even the targets that are linked, seem to be promising players with a clear development and resale plan. Such as Neves when he is evitably sold as I am sure he will be.
  13. Can't say I have ever heard of him but everyone seems very excited. He was linked with Man Utd and Real who apparently were firmly considering bids, part of me thinks Wolves interest might be Mendes trying to drive those other markets, however I find it very hard to fully commit to the idea Wolves are actually good now and our owners are as serious as they say. Just beat City though on pens though for the Premier league title win...so that's a nice start to the season.
  14. I dislike that too. I ain't actually bought a Wolves shirt in years and would never get the shorts obviously but between that one and the home shirts it's not contest if I was getting one. Some of the merchandise they unveiled for that Chinese shop is insane though. I get its not for this market but it all looks like it should be on some William Gibson cover.
  15. He was the commercial director, nothing to do with any actual football business. Although this is easily my 5 post on here this summer which shows how quiet its been. Had to give up on twitter as its too tedious, loads already making up pretend links to what they know about why this guy left (was put on gardening leave). It beats made up rumours about Costa I suppose.
