Some chat about NFTs in here, seems like Football Weekly did a podcast on it all a couple of days ago.  Quite interesting:

I have to be honest, I found that quite frustrating because it just really needed an editor and more focus. They try to address too many topics, and as a result don't really address any (except the guy buying Bedford, who is clearly better equipped at speaking with clarity when being interviewed).

Not that I disagree, but why do you think this?

Because it’s based on absolutely nothing. It’s, at best, encouraging some gambling and, at worst, encouraging a lot of vulnerable people who don’t know what they’re doing to lose money.

Crypto may be great down the line, but it’s nowhere near that right now.

The people who had a clue, knew what to talk about. Max and co had no idea :D

These are my concerns too - we’ve seen plenty of examples too of how dodgy many crypto companies are. It’s a very volatile ecosystem financially and horrible for the environment

Europe’s top clubs lost €4bn last season as player wages rose, claims Uefa report

Player wages rose across Europe in 2021 even as club revenues continued to fall, a Uefa report has found. Top-flight clubs made a combined €4bn (£3.4bn) loss in the Covid-hit 2020-21 season, according to the report, while wages rose by an average of 2%.

In total, wage costs – and agents’ fees – accounted for spending that equalled 91% of revenue. This led to an increase in outside lending, with clubs taking on more than €750m in new debt.

The majority of losses accrued by clubs came from the effect of playing behind closed doors, with revenues from ticket sales falling by 88% in 2020-21. Clubs were also hit by a fall in transfer revenues, with money generated by sales dropping by 40%. These two factors, Traverso argues, helped to drive up wages as clubs tied down players to extended contracts.

“Clubs throughout the top 20 leagues have had to choose between limiting new salary deals, even if that means putting player assets valued on their balance sheets at €13bn at risk, or protecting those assets by extending player contracts,” he says.

The big six refusing to sign up to a Premier League owners charter on the basis that it commits to the idea that Champions league places will always be given out on sporting merit. The top clubs actually refusing to sign up to competition and instead looking to use UEFA's upcoming coefficient idea to ensure they don't have to finish in the top four to qualify.

By not punishing the six clubs that took part, we've allowed them to quietly go about putting permanent change into the game without any fear. The only mistake they made last time was not cutting UEFA and FIFA in on the money, now they're doing that, they'll get their own way soon enough. We might have to finish in the top four for five years before we're allowed to qualify for the Champions league ahead of United.

It's going to be impossible, the money they earn will just widen the gap. Poor show from those that manage and control.the game, if its not competitive its not sporting and sadly its all about money.

That's a really poorly written first few paragraphs.

Is it not that UEFA wanted to get those teams in via European coefficient or whatever? And they're refusing to sign up for that?

When it first happened they all should have been booted immediately. They were so bloody unorganised without a broadcast partner or anything. Honestly, they'd barely have even got going yet even now if we'd kicked them when we should have.

Super League is happening. It'll probably be Utd's incompetence that tips it over the edge to be honest. If they go, they'll all follow.

I thought 14 votes were needed to approve decisions? Premier League were always gutless to these teams and the lack of action was embarrassing

Points deductions should have been applied and the other 14 should be similarly ashamed for not pushing it
