Transfer Speculation Summer 2017

The reported loan fee plus 9 million for Amavi is decent money I guess, however who replaces him in the squad?

As I said was beginning to warm to him staying, hope we will have some type of sell on clause as I would be loath to see him come good and moving to one of the top 4 for 50 million plus. lol

Why - he's done nothing since he's been here. Granted it would be a surprise - but he isn't even getting in the team.

Im really worried we might not buy a striker - and thus won't score enough goals to get promoted that worries me far more than Hourihane.

Our big problem last year was scoring goals. We have Hogan and Kodjia. Two of the very best at this level. Hourihane was probably the best midfielder in the league last season. Well one of. He is a set piece specialist. Why aren't we utilising him?

Could Borg be decent cover for Taylor? Think he was involved during preseason, not sure how he got on.

Would like a couple more signings tbh, some genuine quality would be more than welcome (would love to get more players out too). Maybe we need a LW, if we could get a player like Snodgrass in on loan too (someone to help improve our attacking play) that would be great.

Not sure we need another striker (unless we can somehow shift McCormack) and would like to see RHM get a chance at times. Really hope we can get Hourihane involved too, he's got a lot to offer imo.

Not a fan of Bruce but I'm just hoping we can string some wins together and gain some momentum. I'm really looking forward to Kodjia returning too, I love his enthusiasm and hunger for goals.

Don't know.

But it still looks like putting the ball in the net is a problem. I will be surprised if we don't bring in another striker , probably on loan before the window closes.

We have no where near enough creativity from central midfield IMO, it should be addressed.

feels like this has been an issue since forever. quite surprised we havent done anything about it. a playmaker cant be that hard to find..

That would be plain stupid. Not even Bruce is that dumb.

Yes he is. Hourihane went from featuring in practically every single preseason match (looking good I might add), to be an unused sub while Bacuna starts and Onomah who had only been with the club for 2 days gets minutes as well.

Bacuna literally missed 3/4 of out preseason because of the Gold Cup, then he waltzed back in and was given a starting role. Bruce treats Bacuna like he is Ronaldo.

No he doesn't. This is nonsense.

I don't agree with Bacuna being picked. I hate the guy. he's shit.

But it's pretty obvious that he was picked because Bruce wanted to play two deep lying central midfielders to allow Lansbury to play the more advanced role. Hourihane wouldn't be right for that role. Again, I'd still prefer him to Bacuna but there you go. I can see the logic.

This notion that Bruce treats bacuna like royalty and that bruce is some sort of footballing moron is so lazy.

Fair enough. I was being very hyperbolic. I get what Steve was trying to do, but why? Lansbury never played the attacking mid role in all of preseason. Lansbury was always the deep mid. Why change it for our first match?

Maybe Hourihane is carrying a knock?

I'm speculating.

Sebastian Larsson is about to sign for an unnamed Championship club  (not Sunderland).

Really hope it's not us, doubt we'll be signing another midfielder.

But he is on a free and has worked with Bruce before...

Maybe due to whelan coming in , we never had him or Jedi for most of pre season , thus Lansbury being deeper?

Yes, by all accounts he is a "good" championship player. He was a regular in the Huddersfield side (not a first choice but he played a lot) until he got injured last season.
I thought he was pretty lively at VP, but again got injured in the first half so didn't get much chance to perform.

He wouldn't be first choice for us, but for a team like us who are lacking options out wide in attack, I think he'd be a decent option at least.
He'd be cheap as chips (I believe he's "only" on about 5 grand a week at Huddersfield) and if you want a player who's going to give absolutely everything for Villa then he's your guy. So why not?

FWIW, for the first time in my life I am actually itk. #StevoITK is real!

Obviously I sort of know Joe from VTFC days, but a guy I work with is part of Joe's extended friendship group. I spoke to him today and he said the interest from Villa is real, and that Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds are also interested, but obviously Joe would be choosing Villa above all others.
He's desperate to play in the Prem with huddersfield but given they've just signed Tom Ince I think he knows his playing time may be limited.
Also, it's likely to just be a loan.

I hope people know me well enough that I wouldn't make this up, I'm just passing on what this guy told me. If it's wrong then I'm blaming him!

Not sure how I feel about #StevoITK being actually ITK

Plot twist; you've secretly been in the know all along and this is the first time you actually are just saying stuff for comic effect.

from my limited viewing and knowledge, cant see how Onomah is a replacement for Grealish...  looks more of a replacement for Jedi if anything and will prob sit next to Whelan in the middle with a Grealish type in front of them, on Saturday it was Lansbury

I work with a Spurs fan and he reckon Onomah is an attacking mid (and a good one at that).

He certainly took up that role on Saturday in his limited pitch time.

Not sure how you arrive at that conclusion. I don't think he is a Jedinak replacement - I think is Whelans role.

maybe replacement is a little harsh... meant similar characteristics in terms of sitting deeper but much better on the ball, passing etc.   Not sure id like to see a midfield trio of jedi, Whelan and Onomah although wouldn't surprise me if its Bruce's preference

Hopefully to Steve's point, he is more attacking then what ive seen (again limited viewing)
