Which I did add as a caveat considering the vast majority of people won't have seen all that much of him. Yourself included. Not a dig, just saying. I think I've misinterpreted what you've meant by statistically then, because I would say players like Mo Diame and Bradley Johnson are statistically better Championship midfielders than he is, I'd even stretch to say Lansbury is too. Consistent, proven, statistically strong players at this level and above over several years. If you're going by this season alone then I have no argument, he's definitely top dog. I'd phrase it "the most in-form central midfielder of the Championship" though, myself. If that's what you are saying. But then we're just getting into a semantics debate which is pointless and boring and no-one has time for that Sorry for the misunderstanding, hope this doesn't come across like I'm trying to make an argument out of it

I must say that as a fit for the Villa, I don't think I would have hand picked two better players to sit alongside each other than Hourihane and Lansbury in this division. Even different stronger feet on them. The anticipation for the Brentford game is killing me. If we win that game convincingly I think the fanbase and this site will go into meltdown!
Reivax_Villa
He can easily be a Gareth Barry type player for us with a little bit of mobility and creativity. He will be the player that would keep our midfield ticking.
Kiwivillan
If we get promoted should we change our name from Aston Villa to Hourihane's Left Peg?

Popular Post skarroki
The thing that stuck out for me from that (what I would consider terrible) interview, was him saying about Barnsley winning 12 of 15 games on a crazy run that took them into the play offs from nowhere. You could see on his face when talking about it and going back to villa, he seems convinced we can still get playoffs this season and win them. He looked like that was the plan Bruce had given him, that's the expectation. If the key players genuinely believe it can happen, that's half the battle won. I looked into it and found it fascinating actually: 27th January 2016 Barnsley 13th, played 27, goal difference +2, 36 points 27th January 2017 Aston Villa 13th, played 27, goal difference +1, 36 points Barnsley had a good run up to the end of the season and finished 6th on goal difference, 5 points ahead of Coventry in 8th, who were 12 points ahead of Barnsley on the 27th January. Anything is possible in these divisions and I feel like the players know it and are starting to believe it. They played 11 games in October and November, losing 9, drawing 1 and winning 1, so their start to the season was arguably much worse than ours! Time to kick on with this new lad and the others and try to repeat what Barnsley did last year!

kurtsimonw
Loved his interview. Comes across as a pretty intelligent guy, knows how to answer questions and say the right things. I liked how he straddles that line between being humble but still being confident in his own ability. Can't wait for Brentford.

Woodytom
Instantly becomes the best player at the club for me. Stands up and takes responsibility and delivers. Will go on to be one of the club's best signings in years.
