I'd be happy with Bruce as there is no outstanding candidate, and not one would I want leading us in the PL if we ever get back. So Xia should appoint Bruce on a 2 year and be damned, he can change again in 12 months time if he is not setting the place on fire.

I'm trying to reconcile the stated ambitions for the club (top five in the world, was it?) with the names being discussed.  I don't  see a route map from here to there via those names in the time period given.

I can't help wondering if potential staff are put off by thinking they would be working for someone with absurdly other-worldly ideas.

It might be helpful if Xia were to set out a more limited, more realistic ambition.

Yeah I can see that.

There must be a good few managers thinking to themselves "Sod taking the Villa job. No way do I want to work for an owner who wants them to be among the best in the world. He'd probably give me a fair bit of cash to spend as well. Nah, not for me. Give me an owner happy to stay where they are, spending like they're happy to stagnate and I'll be happy as Larry. May well last a couple of seasons as well"

Wait, on second thoughts, I'm not sure I can see it...

Xia you really don't know what you're doing and worryingly I doubt those charged with running the club on your behalf know either . Club is still in a mess . Worryingly it could be bigger.

Hes made the right choice. In years gone bye we would have unveiled an up and coming guy - maybe from overseas. Tony and his advisors have seen the folly of such an approach and gone for experience this time.

Well done.

For all the world's ills that many seem hell-bent on laying at Tony's door, hiring Bruce is very much a decision made by Wyness and Round. If Bruce does well then Tony should get credit for dropping his own pick so quickly.

Yep - he seems smart enough to learn from his own mistakes   (either that or he's stopped caring !!!!)

Maybe you should apply to be on the board? Seeing as you believe you know better than of all them.

Great.  lets all apply to be manager or coach as we can pick and train better teams.  Or the catering manager as we can get the queues down.  Better yet lets apply to be midfielders as we are all better than westwood?

It's all about opinions which I think is the reason for this site.

Mind you why would I want to be on a mid table championship board?

Ha! Like you would not want to be on the Villa board if you actually had the chance! You would jump at it I am sure...

Whilst I fully understand and to a certain degree accept your reasoning that we needed another stab at a long term/ project/ younger/ become Mr Villa candidate ( hope that sort of covers it) I can't see the leap from that position to the appointment of Bruce warrants anything like this !

Firstly, because it is of itself rather an extreme position, secondly, because surely you accept the approach you prefer might have failed anyway, and third because (again, surely) you would see enough - even if not much ! - in the Bruce appointment to think it might work ?

Rowett/Dyche/Howe might've worked, might not.

Bruce, Warnock, Hughton, etc, ditto.

Surely, no ?

But neither route = clueless ?

Wait, on second thoughts, I'm not sure I can see it...

Try this...

"This club is a complete basket case and has been for many years. Now a new owner has come along boasting about becoming one of the top 3 clubs in the world, thrown about 5% of the money at the club that would be needed even to start achieving that ambition and sacked the manager (his personal choice in the first place) after about 140 days after he failed to transform the club instantly. Hmmm. Maybe stick with the sanity of [Burnley/Huddersfield/Brentford/etc.] until we see how things pan out."
