troon_villan
We seem to sign strikers on there overall numbers of goals.....not criticising that. but the smart money is on goal scorers that score every week or every game. perhaps a bit more nous needs to be applied to the recruitment process. we signed cascarino when his partner sheringham was the more cultured......we signed whittingham, when his partner Paul Walsh was the brains. i could go on. I think you need to.

We'll know a lot more after Watford... I agree. This is the first game under him that he has to approach trying to win. Man City and Everton were all about containing those sides and hoping to create something on the break. We have to beat Watford it is as simple as that and he has to select a team and send them out with a mentality to do that. I know it is early days for Garde but I think this game will tell us if under Sherwood this was a group of half decent players under a poor manager or is simply a group of poor players. If it is the latter then we are finished and will go down. I know some will argue that it may be we have a half decent squad and that Garde just needs longer to get the best out of them but if that is the case then given our predicament Garde is the wrong man for the job. I was convinced that we had a half decent squad this season that simply needed time to settle. Even under Sherwood I considered that our main issue. The facts are though that we have progressively got worse this season. To me that either suggests that I was completely wrong and I put too much faith in these players that had shone in an inferior league and that simply aren't good enough or that these are decent players but they don't have the stomach for a fight and can't handle the increasing pressure that has come with losing games and being bottom. It sounds mad to say it as it is only our 14th game of the season but Saturday is a huge game and will for me signal if we have some hope of staying up or are completely done for. It won't define Garde as to do that after three games would be stupid but it will mean these players aren't good enough and/or don't have the mental strength to fight their way out of the mire. AshVilla
Plus they have a striker that's going to do his best to score against us and put the extra effort in to send us down

We'll be nowhere near that target of 38 points by then. Out of that lot I predict around 10 points. I predict three points
nnock1984
We need to start playing 4-4-2 diamond for me! Guzan Hutton Richards Okore Lescott Sanchez Gueye Veretout Gil Kozak Ayew Look to buy a keeper, striker and box to box midfielder in January as well as bringing Cissokho back. Austin as striker, no idea for keeper or centre mid but we need Prem experience for the midfielder.

My point was that it is not 23 points worth....an awful lot depends on a goalscorer. As regards fight, heart, desire, commitment, character....we've always struggled and always will. You have Clubs always trying to prove something ( Everton that they can match Liverpool, Blues that they can knock their soft, pampered neighbours over, ).....you have your permanent top Clubs, then you have people like us, not at the top, not an up and coming youngster, not with a chip on our shoulder, a sort of late middle aged grandad who will hand out the Murray mints, be light on discipline with the Grandkids, and take a more serene look at the world, having been there but no longer feeling the need to strive again. Or something like that ! good analysis....frightening apt OMG
