Summer Speculation 2014

We have spent about the 4th least in the league. I don't know what to say about that

Are you happy with the new additions to the squad though?

Surely that's more important than the numbers behind it?

I'm happy with the new additions, very disappointed we still don't have an attacking midfielder.

I think we all are but it wasn't for a lack of trying or funding.

Sometimes things aren't meant to be. I thought Cleverley may join and be a useful player for us, coming with a point to prove and a hunger to succeed. It looks like he was another looking to feather his nest, with football coming a poor second in his thoughts. After all of the shenanigans and delaying tactics he and his agent used, the only thing that disappoints me is that we didn't pull the plug sooner.

Regarding the Sergio Canales deal, I can't say I know alot about the guy. I recognise the name, but haven't seen him play. Looking at his history, it looks like he has suffered badly with his ACL. Which kind of leaves me thinking that he may be someone who you are watching always in fear of him breaking down. The thing I find strange about this bid is that usually you would get an idea of if a player is interested in joining the club before entering a bid. Maybe Villa did and he indicated that he may wish to join, but then changed his mind, but the way that Ballague stated he would never join Villa suggests that it was a shot in the dark.

As it happens, I hope what we have got here already and with a bit of luck with injuries, should hopefully see us to a mid table finish. Although as a Villa fan I always want better for my team, if you would have offered me that 2 months ago I would have bitten your hand off.

Come on - weve been short of an AM for 2 seasons now - we didn't suddenley need an AM mid August.

Well I don't think we know that. Lambert may have had a player in mind early in the window and Lerner said he costs too much, or maybe not. I don't think we can say lack of funding was not an issue here.

I'm reasonably happy with who we brought in but disappointed with the overall business. I'm not blaming anyone for trying and missing out on certain targets. Not even Lerner for hardly investing in the squad as we all knew it was going to be difficult because until he goes we wont be spending much.

Not fussed about Cleverly, if he wanted Everton then so be it as I would hate another tosser like Steven ( I love ManC) Ireland at the club again so what happened was probably for the best.

Still the team has started the season well so it's not all doom and gloom.................at least not yet ;)

Sure, I'm happy with Cissokho, Sanchez, Senderos and Richardson. Hutton coming back in and playing well, Zog getting a run after all his injuries.. but I'm disappointed that we didn't improve our attack and add some decent creativity and width in the squad. Spending the 4th least in the league is shocking for a club that has narrowly escaped relegation for the last 2 years.

@ Stoke - 7 shots, 1 on target, 1 goal.

Newcastle - 10 shots, 0 on target

Hull - 11 shots, 4 on target, 2 goals.

In the league so far

28 shots, 5 on target, 3 goals.

Gabby and Andi, as much as I like them, need replacing for better players. (NOTE: I know not ALL of the shots listed where by these 2 players and I know that they are the ones who have scored the 3 goals)

Are we still talking about shots on target. Honestly who gives a shit!

Considering shots on target generally give you a chance to score, I'd say it's a top priority for every team in the league.

Not really, scoring goals, keeping clean sheets and getting points is the top priority. Do you think Arsenal who had 24 shots and 6 on target are saying well done lads good point at Leicester, we done well we had 6 shots on target.

I'm pretty sure I read that it was Canales' club that scuppered the deal - they weren't prepared to let him leave. It could be that Canales was prepared to come. Maybe to be rekindled in January?
