Wheeler Dealers and the myth of Edd China.

Watching them back now a few years after Edd left and it’s clear he was the problem not Mike. Moody bastard, huge ego and made endless questionable design choices.

Edd while a great mechanic is a terrible designer and ruined every car where he was given free reign. Terrible vinyls, terrible accessories, terrible paint jobs. The only time I’ve seen him pick the right colour was for a metallic burnt orange campervan. All the others he ruined and they struggled to sell. The AMC Pacer he turned into a weird white ufo car with fluorescent vinyl was just abysmal and you could tell Mike was fuming.

Mike gets a lot of stick but he had to keep Edd in check and had to put up with Edds miserable moaning mood change halfway through the original run.

I watch it for the mechanicing, I don’t give a hoot about colours or seat coverings. And a different mechanic is on the later ones anyway and he seems a bit cheerier some of the time. When they do American cars I’m not as interested and when they do German ones I feel contented and relaxed.

This week I have the utterly unenviable task of re-cabling my music studio after I decided to give it a bit of a shake up. By my approximation I have around 300 cables to plug in, and then test afterwards to make sure they're all working (which they won't be, because why would they?). Then, I'll be so sick of the site of everything in it, I won't use it for weeks. This is rock and roll.

I've become a bit of an American car nerd in recent months after dismissing them most of my life. Fascinated by them now. The big tail-finned cars of the 50's to the muscle and pony cars of the the mid to late 60s. Love them!

We used to do an annual p*ss up in Liverpool, travelling from between Preston and Blackpool. The first year, we did it in exactly those cars - I was in the back of a mahoosive, pale blue, open topped 1950s chrome and wings thing. Stylish, in a way.

Second year, we did it in a, er, "liberated" Liverpool bus. Scousers, being scousers.

Didn't realise there was one of those! I shall post up once it's in some semblance of order

I paid £4.25 for a regular latte with an extra shot at Strensham northbound services on the M5 this afternoon. Thought this was quite expensive then realised how much a pint costs these days. I equally enjoyed that coffee as much as I would have done the pint. That is all. Bye.

Its amazing how quickly i've accepted paying over £5 for a nice pint in town now.

  • 3 weeks later...

Lidl’s milk tastes different the last few weeks. Don’t know if it’s a change of supplier or not but it’s not a change for the better. My tea tastes crap.

I live in Hackney and am a coffee snob, so am in many ways in the front line concerning take out coffee. I would never pay £5 for a coffee unless I absolutely had no choice. They are taking the **** piss.

Cows are eating fresh grass again after the winter. Most people think it tastes better.

One of the downsides of being a coffee snob, especially compared to say, a beer or wine snob, is I'm very aware of how I can easily and quickly make a considerably better coffee at home - I guess in that kind of area there are some decent independent coffee shops serving a well brewed speciality coffee. It's probably best for my wallet that there is only is one place in Nottingham I'd ever bother getting a coffee, most of the time I'd rather stick to water than shell out for an expensive, overly bitter dark roast.

I consider a pint that's under £5 as cheap these days to be honest

At my office there is one big main car park and one small car park next to my office.

The big main car park is about a 10 minute walk to the office. The small car park is about a 1 minute walk.

Pre-covid you'd have to get in at 7am, if not earlier to get a space in the little car park. So I never did.

But since lockdown and people working from home, I've been able to get a space in the little car park ever time I've been in the office.

Yesterday there were no spaces in the little car park. First time in 2 years.

I resented the walk from the big car park

Had to sit one of those sideways seats near the door on the train today.

First time that's happened since lockdown.

Ive noticed the car park at Four Oaks train station much busier this week.

Rees-Mogg's notes on desks are obviously working!
