I wonder sometimes how when something is repeated a few times on here it influences other posters and becomes fact. Mcginn in my opinion did quite well today much better than previous games. Villa talk loves a scapegoat.One player who is responsible for a poor performance or general poor form. Previous recipients of this award have been Elgazi,Trezeguet, Targett,Mings,Watkins etc.It’s strange that some of these players have left and we haven’t improved drastically.Mings for me is a classic example,when he doesn’t play we look considerably weaker but it was often discussed on here that he is the weak link in our defence. We need to find one player who is responsible for all our woes who the manager still picks and when the manager realises his mistake and stops picking him we will be brilliant. Unfortunately it’s a false dawn.When we drop this player and play the player everyone thinks should be playing we will still lose.

It’s what the Queen would have wanted.

For me the best current English player at running with the ball and dribbling.He has a skill that I think no other English player has and onlyGazza was better at. How we needed him when we played Croatia in semifinal,someone who could hold on to the ball,accept the ball whist being marked and be able to keep it and draw fouls. But that was when Jack played for us.I wonder if he will ever rediscover that form,he is a shadow of the player who played for us. He is at the wrong club with the wrong manager.There is a recurring theme of great players this country has produced who are never able to perform on the world stage.Southgate must be happy,he doesn’t need to pick him anymore.

I feel a lot of empathy with your view.Although I maybe a few years younger I have seen our great days and accept times like now to be endured with good grace. We have a lot to be grateful for.We follow a fantastic club.We have one of the great stadiums and we have generous owners. But the one thing I know about Villa is success will come unexpectedly and be fleeting and must be enjoyed to the full at the time.

People have compared our appointment of Gerrard with the Howe and Marsh taking over at Newcastle and Leeds. They both seem to be doing really well at present.I think Newcastle particularly were being managed very badly so with a decent manager they have improved.I don’t think with Smith we were being managed poorly.I can’t think of any player who is playing better under Gerrard than they were under Smith with the exception of Cash. For all Smiths faults Gerrard was certainly no upgrade. We desperately need an experienced manager .Poch no chance. Potter not sure if he would come maybe wait for a bigger job.

This maybe against most public opinion but there is much less of certain crimes that very rarely gets reported. For instance from 31st of October 2021 to 30th of April 2022 there was not a single gun homicide in London.Firstly It makes me so glad that gun ownership is banned in this country. How this has happened I am not sure.It might have something to do with the heavy sentencing for gun possession and criminal gangs use other weapons. But this persistent narrative that we are less safe now than we were years ago is not born out by statistics.I think the highest murder rate in recent times came in 2001.I would accept that certain crimes will have increased such as robbery.

The most worrying aspect is the denial there could be any possibility of wrongdoing.The fact that the military is often put in extreme positions where their lives and the lives of others are in danger is undeniable.That does not excuse wrongdoing. Surely one thing we should be proud of in this country is that whenever crimes are committed they are in investigated and dealt with properly(I know present government and prime minister do not follow this principle). What are we doing in any foreign country if we are not following this principle.What right do we have to have to be in any conflict if we are doing the same as our so called enemies.

It always disappoints me the”our boys“ can never have done anything wrong and can never be brought to account about it. We are often talking about other countries committing war crimes and love to preach that we would never do such things. This kind of behaviour can be seriously counterproductive as we saw in Northern Ireland.

I thought for about 2 seasons he was our best player along with Benteke. The loss of him and Benteke and never finding good replacements was the reason we were relegated. I wonder if he can keep injury free, is he is worth signing?

Mcginn plays well we play well. I do think midfield needs refreshing,personally I hope Luiz moves on.

Not his biggest fan.Lennon for me was huge influence. As I have got older I have become more receptive to his post Beatles stuff.It’s strange melodically he is brilliant,he seems like a reasonable bloke but there is something that grates .I am not sure what it is. Maybe it’s his insecurities,why would he need to acccept the knighthood?

A conversation you are never likely to hear. Where shall we go on holiday? Well it must be a country with a monarch.And now that the United Kingdom have just abolished theirs will have to go to Thailand or Japan instead.

For me the main reason why I don’t believe in the monarchy is because it is telling people what ever you do or whatever you achieve there will always be a group of people who are above you. A working class kid can go to Oxford or Cambridge make some discovery or major advance but is told sorry mate you will always need to be subservient to Royals. I think it has held this country back hugely and reinforced the class system where many working class people don’t aspire to things because they should know their place.

This argument is often used to justify the monarchy.Many people who want to get rid of the monarchy don’t necessarily want to follow the French and Russian model.We don’t need to execute them(although maybe in Andrews case it might be justified) We just want to remove them as head of state and having any constitutional power.They will still be alive,they could have TV shows like the Kardashians and will still provide interest to foreigners,maybe even more than now where they can be more open.Many weathly people abroad will be able to pay openly to have an audience with the Queen et al(rather than at present where it’s hidden) Then maybe we can be proud to have a country where your own abilities are more important than your birthright.

I went to all the home games that season but the final was a few days before my GCSE’s so I didn’t go because I thought they were more important. I got that so wrong.You can retake exams the next year but Villa getting to a European Cup Final,that might not happen again in my lifetime.

Quite a divisive player.Seems to divide opinion a lot. What I remember about him is his incredible work rate and great defensive covering.Some of our greatest performances last season Liverpool7-2 and Arsenal away 0-3 were with him in the team. Yes he could display some atrocious close control and decision making. But without his goals we would probably have been relegated.

I think her non appearance at events recently is due to mobility issues ie she doesn’t want to be seen in a wheelchair. Princess Margaret was pictured in a wheelchair a few years before she died and I think the Queen feels it will be a lasting image that may define her later years. You would have thought she could get one of those sedan chairs and get a couple of flunkeys to carry her.

During first lockdown he was probably our best player Since then he has been average for me.He not a quality defensive midfielder that is certain. He is skilful but how often does he make decisive passes?For all Mcginns faults he is often creating things. As for set pieces,why is he taking free kicks and corners?Has he ever scored from a free kick or got an assist from a set piece? He might flourish in a different team where he has less defensive responsibility.

The Roman historiansTacitus and Pliny the younger do actually mention Jesus of Nazareth in about 100AD.They reveal little about him but talk about his arrest and execution.So there are small fragments that a man called Jesus existed and was executed.

As is often the case “a prophet is not with dishonour except in his own town”(the bible) or people are often not appreciated in their home town. I think David Moyes is a pretty good judge of player and he is not wrong with Watkins.He is our best striker since Benteke.He is not having his best season and his link up play has been especially weak this season.Could it be improved?Could actually some special coaching in this area improve it ?Can player weaknesses be addressed ?I know it’s pretty revolutionary thinking that coaching might improve a player. Or do we just sell him buy somebody new for £60-70 million and work out what they can’t do.Because on here there will be much discussion about their weaknesses.

Have to disagree with some here on Rice. He reminds me a lot of Roy Keane.It was said he could play any outfield position and still be the best player on the pitch,maybe a slight exaggeration. Rice for me could be a brilliant central defender who could bring the ball out,a superb defensive midfielder and going forward he displays great passing ability. Put him in our team and I think we would be top 6.

I think about about the best Villa teams I have seen and they had a mix of very experienced players Withe,McGrath,Merson,Townsend mixed with emerging talent.I think that’s what we had wrong in our first season in the Premier league,not enough experience. I wasn’t a huge fan of appointing Gerrard initially but I feel he needs to have the summer transfer window and preseason to be judged properly. For me the midfield Mcginn,Luiz axis doesn’t work consistently enough and needs to be addressed.

Yes just won £130 I just need Villa to score to make my evening!

I must admit I don’t know that album well but their standard encore includes India and Sister Europe so I will have to revisit it properly.
