  1. Peter Reid was asked how this current Everton team compare to the great team he played in the 1980’s. He reckoned his team would probably beat the current team even with most of the players from that team being over 65 and three being dead.
  2. They seemed to fuse a bit of Roxy,Bowie and Lydon together.Forever Now is the album of theirs I play the most.
  3. Just been to see the Psychedelic Furs.Such a brilliant group.I don’t think they get the kind of recognition they deserve, obviously their greatest stuff was 40 years ago but they have a new album which is pretty good. This is the first concert I have been to since the outbreak of the pandemic. What an incredibly uplifting experience live music can be.
  4. Yes agree, booked to see them at the O2,cheaper seats £50 so not too bad. Not had chance to see them live before so prepared to put up with such a soulless venue. Ferry brilliant songwriter but what a dick.
  5. I suppose underrated I mean it’s regarded as a good film.I am not sure it’s widely known as a great film, whilst Love Actually and Bridget Jones are often lauded.Radio Times gives it 4 stars. I think it’s one of the great British films along with Withnail
  6. Educating Rita It was on TV last night, such a brilliant film(and play). It seems to be saying a lot of higher education is overrated tosh but it does provide students with more choice. I thinks it Michael Caine’s best performance.
  7. I met him a few years ago and I said what a brilliant player he was and he said I must have a bad memory! Great game tonight,so many good things. For me Ings had his best performance in a Villa shirt,Cash outstanding defending and going forward,Luiz rediscovering his lockdown form,Chambers brilliant signing,Mings, Digne etc Coutinho is pushing Grealish to the title as 2 nd most talented Villa player ever (just below Cowans)
  8. I think Tottenham(unbelievably) and Arsenal both have much bigger fan bases,Chelsea have to advertise on the radio to sell tickets for European games. They are able to sustain losses of up to £100 million only due to RA.They do have a fantastic academy and are making big profits from loans and sales of young players which keeps them inside limits of FFP. Their financial model is totally dependent on RA’s bankrolling. You would think they will have to sanction RA and this will be the end of them being a top 4 club. You could see them being another Leeds circa 2005.
  9. Yes artistically most stuff after Scary Monsters was poor. The atrocious Tin Machine concert I saw was one of few timeswhen I felt the audience didn’t want to be there, the people working at the venue didn’t want to be there and the artist felt the same But as a performer he could be brilliant. The best concert I saw of his was when he played the whole of Low at Royal Festival Hall,I couldn’t get tickets normally but saw a competition in a magazine and managed to win them.
  10. I have seen Bowie many times through the years but Tin Machine was a test of loyalty I think. I saw Tin Machine in 1989 at National Kilburn which although the music was a bit crap was a brilliant concert. When Tin Machine toured again in 1991 at Brixton and that certainly rates as one of the worst gigs I have been to. My main gig regret was missing out on seeing the Stones when they played Brixton Academy in 1992ish.I have never been tempted to see them at the huge venues they normally play.
  11. The funny thing is I longed so much for mid table mediocrity when we were desperately fighting relegation or trying to get promoted. Just to be able to enjoy the football without worrying too much if we drew or lost. The game against Leeds we created 3 brilliant goals with one of the worlds most talented players isn’t that enough?Who cares that we drew the game.I quite like not having too much pressure put on the result. We should enjoy it.
  12. I cannot believe some of the comments on here such as “he was rubbish last season” ,utter garbage. He I not playing well at the moment but it’s not if we have been creating lots of chances for him to miss. He hasn’t scored for a few games and his confidence is probably very low.I think buying Ings in the summer has affected him. I don’t know if others remember when we signed Peter Crouch,he had a very slow start, fans started to get on his back .We had to sell him at a loss for 2 million and he ended up at Liverpool and Spurs where his value rose to 12 million.Great business Villa. With the right team set up and fans behind him I think he can be a very good premier league player as he showed in his first season.
  13. Just wonder if our performance on Wednesday took a lot out of us and Leeds and may explain both clubs results. I have been an advocate of Watkins up until now but for next game Ings must start. What is Samson doing in training that seems to exclude him from our team. Mcginn coming off for Chuk was a mistake.Although he wasn’t playing well he does take responsibility and tries to create. We lacked his drive in the last few minutes and Chuk was playing very safely.Just wonder if we have loaned out too many attacking players as we don’t have that many attacking options.
  14. I was worried when I saw some prematch stuff about how this was going to be a walkover.Have those people watched us versus Bielsa? Some of our attacking play is beautiful to watch with Coutinho showing us he is world class. Ramsey is an incredibly skilful and deadly finisher.A guaranteed starter. I looked at our bench before the game,it looked weak.We need Bailey and Traore back,if they had been available they would have been very useful in the last 15 minutes. Why do we seem so soft and concede really sloppy goals? No one player is responsible and people who are picking out Martinez,Mings and Konsa I think are misguided. We lack a real imposing physical defensive midfielder.A Fabinho,Rice ,Fernandinho, someone to provide the back four with some protection.
  15. It’s funny I wrote my piece and sent it before I read yours
  16. Good reason. For myself I haven’t been in a gym for over 25 years, the close proximity of a group of sweaty people doesn’t appeal. That shit music they play, the underlying tension and pressure is too much for me.I remember watching some guy running fast on a treadmill carrying some heavy weights and I thought this is not for me . I like being outdoors even in the wind and rain.
  17. Why do people drive to the gym to go running on a treadmill ?
  18. A book by Goldhagen in 1996 called Hitlers Willing Executioners argues that Germany as a whole was deeply anti Semitic around this time and developed a strong desire to eliminate Jews and that Hitler was able to use this.So maybe this brainwashing the German people may be exaggerated and convenient to put the blame on a few individuals.
  19. When they demolished the beautiful Trinity stand my sister happened to be around and noticed they were throwing away all the old claret and blue mosaic tiles. So she collected a huge bag full and we had plans to do something with them. Unfortunately her Bolton Wanderers supporting husband accidentally threw them out when he was tidying up and claims he didn’t know what they were. It’s still a cause of friction years later.
  20. I can understand people questioning his form this season but “Watkins had a fairly good first season” I find difficult to agree with. I thought he was one of our best players last year and probably the best striker we have had since Benteke Regarding his headed chance,in the 1970 World Cup when Banks saves Peles header was that a bad miss on Peles part?
  21. Not taking most things in life too seriously.99% of most things aren’t really that important.
  22. Couldn’t agree more.He was OK yesterday,we look a much better team with him upfront alone. He offers so much more than Ings. Are we creating lots of chances for him ?No Wesley shit,Davis shit Kodja shit Ings a bit shit Watkins was good now shit .Villatalk seems to specialise in making a striker our go to scapegoat.
  23. I have been watching Villa for 50 years and their is no question he is the most talented player to play for us in that time. Is Jack regretting signing for Man City? His wages have been tripled,he is very likely to win the premier league title and maybe champions league so probably not. Will he ever recapture that form and the ability to show his unique skills he showed with us? maybe not. Will he ever have that adoration that we gave him ?maybe not. Have we found a player that has maybe 80% of his ability,?yes At the moment it looks like we have done extremely well out of the deal and he has got some time of the things that he wanted but maybe he will have to sacrifice that free flowing ability that he was able exhibit with us but the move was inevitable.
  24. Yes you beat me to it. Although the main title sequence is really good the ending theme has a tinge of melancholia to it(which is quite difficult to spell after some wine)that seems to suit the themes in the programme and often they didn’t win. ough
