  1. Just as the wolves fans were finishing a rousing rendition of SOTV they have to stop before saying Villa as the ball rolls home from Pau. Lovely.
  2. Clean sheet is important. Especially not conceding whilst we're still settling in the first ten/twenty minutes of the game. Bad habits forming there, away from home. I actually think 0-0 would be a reasonable result. Wolves seem a bad match up to our high line and I imagine Nero will cause some problems. Hoping for a 2-1 or a gritty 1-0. That would show some character that Villa haven't had for a long time against Wolves.
  3. When the ball goes towards Bailey, I always wonder if he'll control it well enough to sustain the attack. Then I'm unsure whether he'll find a Villa player. He doesn't breed confidence. I trust Bertie in both of those situations almost completely, no matter what pressure he is under. Taking the ball is so natural to him. Add into that his penchant for scoring screamers and crafting openings and it explains why he's so useful to have around
  4. Because we've been through a consultation process fairly recently, can they use that data without having to run a second consultation to re-do the design? I'm assuming they may want to if they can't twist the result to what they want, but if it results say 'must have Aston Villa' and 'must contain a lion' and not much else...I guess they could just run with it.
  5. On reflection, I am very surprised that the round design got the nod when it is so similar to Chelsea's. We just can't have a logo that is so similar to another if we're trying to be recognisable and individual.
  6. Not sure if Chelsea have the ability to press like Newcastle and Liverpool did, so we may not suffer in that respect. However, despite Chelsea being shit, they do have players that can take a chance if we offer them up as easily as we have been. I always go into a match against Chelsea with a feeling we can get something and normally I'd be feeling a 2-1 win for us is on the cards. Can't lose the nagging feeling that we'll ship two/three easy goals and leave ourselves stranded before we get a goal towards the end.
  7. Lineker had a good one about being able to take a free kick immediately, including being able to pass it to yourself. An interesting idea as it would potentially put a stop to the shithousing tactics such as pull backs. I'd also look at penalties for handball. Potentially only giving a penalty if the hand stops a shot towards goal. Other handballs, such as blocking a cross etc seem to have such a high reward even though they're at the edge of the box in an unthreatening position. I'd tie into this that the ball is dead once the outcome of the kick has been decided. No rebounds.
  8. It's probably why they're looking at more. They want a tiered system of hospitality so that nearly every supporter in the ground is opting for one thing or another in addition to their tickets. The Terrace View costs a lot and you have to opt in for a whole season. The new Holte Suite will be something people can go for once as a birthday present or Christmas treat for £70...then there's the Gas Lamp/Heineken for £150...then the 1874 etc. I think Villa have been a bit off the pace in terms of other teams when structuring ST benefits to get more money from fans. Not long ago we had two free cup games and the Holte Suite benefits for one of the cheapest prices...it feels like the brains at the top have tried to catch up with other teams in a short space of time...and it feels unfair.

    Jhon Durán

The technique on the strike is absolutely class. He takes the shot before the apex of the bounce whilst it's still rising. Superb control to not only keep it down, but also rip the living shit out of it into the roof of the net on the turn.

    Louie Barry

Another great finish from him today. Cuts into the box from the left and curls on into the far corner over the keeper. Noice.
  11. Following the introduction of the 'Martinez Rule', I thought keepers were meant to get yellows for being distracting during penalties. Did Johnson get anything for clapping in Dougie's run up?
  12. I think the VARs should just keep their beaks out of decisions like that. Ref should just give it, then trot over to the screen with no other instructions, and just give himself time to check. He should also be the one asking for it to be sped up/slowed down/different angle etc. Keep a third person out of the decision making process - it just casts doubt.
  13. He's a bit like Agbonlahor in the sense that I'd back him to score a difficult chance with no time to think over a one-on-one with a few clicks. Someone in the match thread said something along the lines of 'it feels like Watkins won't score unless it's a sitter'...I think it's the other way around. He's more likely to miss a sitter because he knows it's a sitter and puts pressure on himself.

His finishing over the first few matches has been very sharp.
  15. It would stop him being absolutely panned after every game though
  16. I haven't seen the goal and I'm not too invested in what Maguire did...but it looks like he hasn't even managed to track the 9 (as he's got a couple of yards on him) whilst crashing clumsily into another England player in the process. It's got to the point now where Maguire will be hammered for whatever he does, by almost everyone. Another reason why Southgate should not be starting him. He almost needs to play abroad for a mid-table outfit with no scrutiny to be forgotten about before making any sort of comeback.

Faustino Asprilla regen but with a bit more power and a bit less guile. Same doesnt-look-in-control-but-actually-beats-players dribbling style and ultimately very good at football...all with strength and decent finishing as well.
  18. My guess would be that they've tied themselves up in knots changing rules to try and justify incorrect decisions or make it easier to weedle out of.
  19. Look at it. Akanji doesn't even go and celebrate as he knows she was offside and got in the way.
  20. https://twitter.com/FootballJOE/status/1697944619273593230?t=4JntqlV1U_9ySFc7YSgmrg&s=19 That's a great finish. McBurnie nearly stitched him up with the weight of the pass but Cam is just lethal in the box when he's feeding off another striker.

    Keinan Davis

Hull, Swansea, or Udine...tough choice. Keinan came through at a time when we were struggling, had arguably the best debut of a youth teamer we've seen against Norwich, and helped Snodgrass, Adomah, and Hourihane get the goals to win us games. Going to be really interesting to see his career over in Italy. And definitely opens the opportunity for a niche Udinese/Davis shirt to be purchased.
  22. He'll just be a bit of cover during Mings' Lenglet off.
  23. To be fair, since Emery has been here, Coutinho has barely 'played' anywhere. My thought was more of a squad place replacement rather than a position. I think Coutinho was earmarked to be moved on...and that attacking spot was used for Zaniolo. (Maybe)
  24. I've been impressed whenever I've seen him against higher opposition. I wonder if he could give us the Moreno-on-the-right option to alternative with in some matches. In the future. He's definitely comfortable enough on the ball, in my opinion.
