    Unai Emery

Not sure you can say he was slow to react. It was only 9 minutes between all three goals. Neither was it an onslaught. They had three shots on target and they all came from crosses in that period. Wouldn't even say they had sustained pressure. Something went on down our right side. Not sure if they pushed Regullion higher up or if Konsa/Bailey just lost their way for ten minutes...I don't think there was really enough time between each goal for us to see a reaction from Emery even if he had tweaked something. Pretty much all on the players shitting themselves.

He might actually be a useful tool against City. Press with intensity and harass their defense. With the few touches he'll get, you know he'll still lazer in a couple of unexpected shots from unlikely positions...might actually catch Man City out a bit.
  3. Short black lad with plaits in a Chelsea kit...Probably thought it was Raheem Sterling and didn't want to give him a high-five as he never passes the ball.

Time for Duran to replicate his knee-volley thunderbastard that rattled Ederson's bar...just a few mm lower this time.
  5. Gordon is a problem. Both penalties against West Ham were a case of him just throwing a leg in front of a clearance without any control of the ball or any intent to get anything except contact. I think Salah had one against Mings once where he just threw a leg out. Really, they're free kicks against the defenders but why do the refs keep going for it?
  6. You've got to remember how stupendously shit Man United are this year. They let every team they play have 15-20 shots per game. Brentford are a useful team, but we'll have enough.
  7. Sort of, he played in the farce of our U18s against Liverpool in the cup which technically counted.

Just a random thought...but shouldn't he be knocking Konsa's chip in so it's nestling in the net without any chance of it hitting the post/getting cleared? However, his pressing and slide tackling created the second goal and Zaniolo's chance soon after... so credit for that.
  9. That video just shows what a nonsense it all is. Look how long it's taken to disallow a goal where a player clearly uses his arm to knock it in. Not to mention an offside player at the start having an impact on our players to get back into defensive positions. Also, I get the feeling that there would be some interpretations where if it had come of Bowen (but not his hand) then the handball could've been ignored for some reason.
  10. Imo it's a way of belittling Villa. "They couldn't offer anything except effort and even then we knew they'd run out of steam" I remember John Terry saying the same when a Chelsea beat an O'Neill team. Cheap shot imo.
  11. Wonder if Madison and Postecoglu will come out after the game chirping about how a team looked tired this weekend?
  12. Almost identical conversations to the ones that were had after the United loss...and we recovered from that. We've done a really good job of not letting losses fester and turn into a long run of poor results, so hopefully we carry that on. It'll be harder with the injuries and suspensions we have this time around, but there's no point throwing in the towel just yet. Emery won't.
  13. It's a red, no doubt. If he'd tripped him with a clipped heel, or even slid in front and not got the ball it's a yellow. The fact he took a huge **** swipe from the wrong side means he's basically just kicked on opponent. Lansbury had one for us in the Championship.
  14. I sometimes wonder if Emery's multiple meetings and instructions play on the minds of players too much, especially when they're a bit out of form and trying to get it back. Takes up too much cognitive load. Feels like this could be the case with Diaby.
  15. Am I right in thinking away goals don't count any more? I wonder how much that factors in to the grand plan of Unai. Means less risk to try and win at home and less need to push for an away goal.
  16. Nothing wrong wit that. Just a bit boring to watch. We're away at what people considered one of the most difficult teams left in the conference. We haven't expended a lot of energy.l, we're getting minutes into Pau and Konsa after injuries, and we're giving Tim and Rogers some experience. This puts us in a good position for Spurs on Sunday and to control the second leg once that's out of the way. Seems like it's all going to plan to me..

    Arsenal

He's still a massive whopper though.
  18. The Carbone V Leeds hattrick is clearly the standout but there was a Benteke hattrick against QPR in a 3-3 where he just carried us. I'd put that one above his Sunderland one, probably because he made a the goals himself and it earned us a point. He really was a fantastic player.
  19. I know we joke sometimes, but I genuinely.think they have about 10 points more than they should because of dubious refereeing incidents. They're tosh in every metric that assesses a team's effectiveness. Look at the shot counts listed a few posts back. Not a good team.
  20. It should also have been a second yellow after he dodged getting carded for a late tackle in an earlier Fulham move.
  21. I don't disagree...but I would say that other teams have those qualities as well and we've never really been overrun multiple times in those games.
  22. A general question really...how many times have we conceded due to a direct error in the high line? I can think of the AZ goal at home, maybe a couple in the Newcastle away game? Our biggest errors seem to come from set prices or CMs dropping too deep on the first chase back and letting someone meet the ball on the edge of the box imo.
  23. I've never seen someone send so many opposition players to the floor just by their ball control. If he was a bit more physical, even like Ramsey, he'd be genuinely unstoppable.
  24. I'm pretty apathetic towards 1874 being included or not to be honest. It's not a hill I'd choose to die on. But...I can see why it may be a selling point as part of our 'brand' over other teams. Unless we went for a Juve style badge or a very specific shape like Forest/Spurs, I don't think a lot of stuff reduces well on digital media. It's only because we're so familiar with the PL teams that we recognise any them. Liverpool and Man United certainly don't reduce well. So, if we've not going to be drastic with the shape, it doesn't really matter about the smaller details.
