The technique on the strike is absolutely class. He takes the shot before the apex of the bounce whilst it's still rising. Superb control to not only keep it down, but also rip the living shit out of it into the roof of the net on the turn.

Another great finish from him today. Cuts into the box from the left and curls on into the far corner over the keeper. Noice.
  3. Following the introduction of the 'Martinez Rule', I thought keepers were meant to get yellows for being distracting during penalties. Did Johnson get anything for clapping in Dougie's run up?
  4. I think the VARs should just keep their beaks out of decisions like that. Ref should just give it, then trot over to the screen with no other instructions, and just give himself time to check. He should also be the one asking for it to be sped up/slowed down/different angle etc. Keep a third person out of the decision making process - it just casts doubt.
  5. He's a bit like Agbonlahor in the sense that I'd back him to score a difficult chance with no time to think over a one-on-one with a few clicks. Someone in the match thread said something along the lines of 'it feels like Watkins won't score unless it's a sitter'...I think it's the other way around. He's more likely to miss a sitter because he knows it's a sitter and puts pressure on himself.

His finishing over the first few matches has been very sharp.
  7. It would stop him being absolutely panned after every game though
  8. I haven't seen the goal and I'm not too invested in what Maguire did...but it looks like he hasn't even managed to track the 9 (as he's got a couple of yards on him) whilst crashing clumsily into another England player in the process. It's got to the point now where Maguire will be hammered for whatever he does, by almost everyone. Another reason why Southgate should not be starting him. He almost needs to play abroad for a mid-table outfit with no scrutiny to be forgotten about before making any sort of comeback.

Faustino Asprilla regen but with a bit more power and a bit less guile. Same doesnt-look-in-control-but-actually-beats-players dribbling style and ultimately very good at football...all with strength and decent finishing as well.
  10. My guess would be that they've tied themselves up in knots changing rules to try and justify incorrect decisions or make it easier to weedle out of.
  11. Look at it. Akanji doesn't even go and celebrate as he knows she was offside and got in the way.
  12. https://twitter.com/FootballJOE/status/1697944619273593230?t=4JntqlV1U_9ySFc7YSgmrg&s=19 That's a great finish. McBurnie nearly stitched him up with the weight of the pass but Cam is just lethal in the box when he's feeding off another striker.

    Keinan Davis

Hull, Swansea, or Udine...tough choice. Keinan came through at a time when we were struggling, had arguably the best debut of a youth teamer we've seen against Norwich, and helped Snodgrass, Adomah, and Hourihane get the goals to win us games. Going to be really interesting to see his career over in Italy. And definitely opens the opportunity for a niche Udinese/Davis shirt to be purchased.
  14. He'll just be a bit of cover during Mings' Lenglet off.
  15. To be fair, since Emery has been here, Coutinho has barely 'played' anywhere. My thought was more of a squad place replacement rather than a position. I think Coutinho was earmarked to be moved on...and that attacking spot was used for Zaniolo. (Maybe)
  16. I've been impressed whenever I've seen him against higher opposition. I wonder if he could give us the Moreno-on-the-right option to alternative with in some matches. In the future. He's definitely comfortable enough on the ball, in my opinion.
  17. I don't disagree. I feel that's necessary as well. However, I think Emery prioritises a defender who can play the ball over one who is better at the physical elements...which is why this link could be a goer. I think Carlos is probably the perfect hybrid of the two elements but I don't think there's too many of his ilk about at this point.
  18. Looks like a cover option for Mings more than anything else. I think we're happy to defend by having a high line and keeping the ball...rather than dominating in one v one duels constantly. Seems a reasonable option for low funds. Why not? Especially if Hause ends up going.
  19. Part of me wonders if Zaniolo was bought as the the Coutinho replacement.
  20. I'd be surprised if it isn't someone we haven't been linked with before. I just don't think we work in the way in which we'd set up a brand new deal at this point before the deadline. So it will be one we made initial contact with, got put on hold, then we go back to complete. I think it's a forward from Torres, Felix, Johnson etc....and a left back if Digne goes. We might even try to actively make that happen by working on the replacement first. I think Emery is happy with the options at RB so probably nothing happening there. Outs could be interesting though. A lot that could feasibly move on.
  21. Is there a more pointless skill than the no look pass? Not even sure it's a skill tbh. He looked very encouraging though. I think once he's got used to our system he's going to be very productive for us.
  22. I look back on the Reebok 95-97 kit and think they emphasise part of the point quite well. All different, but all definitely transmit 'Villa' in their design. I like how the shorts/socks can all interchange nicely as well from a design perspective. Not sure how you would repeat this every year to keep it 'fresh', but I'd argue claret, white, yellow, light blue (maybe navy and black too) included in some way in all shirts in some way would be a start.
  23. Remember on his debut when we were trying to work out if he fluked the volley against Bristol... The crazy bastard just spent the rest of his time scoring bangers to show us it was genuine.
  24. I think we're seeing the last step in meeting Purslow's famous 'if you're not around the first team by 18, the you aren't good enough' strategy. The players we're selling are the ones that could've been doing that, but weren't. A bit sad, as they're good players and it's nice to see them come through, but ultimately we are being a bit more ruthless whilst still holding a bit of control with the buy backs. The 'new' youngsters like Feeney, Smith, Kellyman, Wilson, Young, O'Reilly are the ones expected to break through before 20 imo and this clears the way for them. ...and if they don't, sell for a bit of profit each time.

There's an angle from behind the goal that shows him try and go the exact opposite direction to where he ends up. He made up for it well though! Lovely, calm finish. 10 secs into this vid... https://twitter.com/AVFCLatam/status/1693668576178196865?t=GMszlYL2RU7oc7MBYVrQdA&s=19
