Its just lazy journalism. Gabby has been great for us since the turn of the year as well and barely gets a mention. Its like 'martin o'neils aston villa' all over again. Unless we look like we are going down or pushing for Europe, Villa does not exist in the hacks simple minds. Don't get me wrong he has been brilliant for us but the next month we have to prove to all that we are more than just one really good player. Apart from Benteke who is a real gem and destined for huge things we as a club are not doing anything to really get noticed. The odd good result, the odd good hiding thats it. Well to be perfectly honest, we are one-man team aren't we? We overly rely on this player to deliver the goods, or else it is pretty well known that we will suffer. Gabby has been very good indeed, but that is also next to Benteke. He has shown time after time that he can struggle to make an impact, especially as he is not a very good goalscorer. Now that Benteke does that work, Gabby will get a job well done if he provides an assist or generally harass the other team with his pace. Without Benteke on top, that pace doesn't always help him as defenders double up. We have Benteke who is three levels above every other player we have, simple as that. Every team has that extra special player, from Van Persie, Özil and Suarez to Bale last year, but at Villa it's extra visible. Same with Michu at Swansea, his level is so much higher than every other player in that team. We have been crap for years now, which automatically leads to the media switching attention, and very few players have contributed over time with their brilliance. Guzan has to some degree, but so have almost every other goalkeeper in the league. Guzan has gotten his fair share of praise actually, same with Vorm, Begovic and Mignolet. People mentioned Westwood, Weimann and Lowton last season - but none of them carry the team over time like Benteke does.
