Kuwabatake Sanjuro
Until Targett gets fit or in form he should hold his place. Hasn't the dynamism as a winger anymore though.

Wezbid
At 36 he's quicker than Targett. Dealt well with Sarr, his experience shone through in terms of his starting position when Watford got the ball.

Why? He's been a wing back for most of the games he's played in the latter part of his career.

Precisely why you'd think he'd be better at helping out his fullback.
villalad21
Did Smith watch some retro Villa clip lately from the late 2000's? Absolutely baffling decision to put a 36 year old Young on the wing when he haven't played there for a good 6-7 years Hopefully it's the last time we see him there. Guy is a fullback. Johnnyp
Thought he was very decent at LB. Passing crisp and sharp. Place is up for grabs surely after Targett’s performance.
Condimentalist
Offers a lot from LB. Poise on the ball and a lot of leadership and composure. Shirt is his to lose now IMO.
villalad21
Nowhere near the player who signed for us from Watford. Completely different player. First and foremost a defender. Very solid defensively and his experience really shows. Harsh on Targett but it's the way it's gotta be. What he did last season is meaningless. It's a new season and you're starting from scratch. Young have claimed the LB position and rightfully so. Edited August 21, 2021 by villalad21
Farlz
We actually have some really competition for that LB spot now. He dealt with Sarr pretty comfortably in the second half last week and today he was close to MOTM for me, so solid. A bit mad that he's 36, fit as a fiddle.

Dave-R
Ashley played very good and loved how he went to the Newcy player and had him for diving, he proper roasted him. May have to get an Ashley shirt before his playing days are done at Villa. Edited August 21, 2021 by Dave-R

pete101
Really showed his intelligence today, targett imo gives away a penalty in first half where he pulled out of the challenge , got himself between man and ball and won a few fouls Edited August 21, 2021 by pete101

He must be getting grumpy in his old age.
SidSidSidSid
Impressive today. Just behind JJ for motm. Gonna take some shifting by Targett, I reckon.

Mantis
Him and Gabby both had their breakout seasons at around the same time (Young is actually over a year older). Yet while Gabby was basically done by the time he was 29, Young is still going strong at 36. Amazing really.

Young always had a lot more to his game and was the more intelligent player. Nu surprises honestly.
