Ashley Westwood

Bacuna in the middle, no way...he's done nothing to suggest been ahead of either Delph, Westwood, Sanchez, then there's Cleverley too.

He has more energy than Westwood, will get up and down the pitch more which will be needed in this game. In my line up he'd be playing aslong side Delph, Sanchez and Cleverley.

IMO you pick players who's abilities can match your opposistion, not on current form. But then I guess everyone is different.

Westwood has some great attributes and I really rate him as a player, but he wouldn't start every game.

Ian Wright on Twitter: Morning all. With all the names being mentioned for the England squad I wonder if Roy's gonna have a look at villa's Ashley Westwood ?

That's a joke. Westwood is a decent player, but he is nowhere near International quality.

Bacuna takes way too long on the ball for me and his distribution is hit and miss.  We would suffer badly if we dropped Westwood for Bacuna imo.   I see Bacunas future out wide or maybe at RB.

I watched the last England game and Wilshire played in Westwoods position and was terrible again.  Westwood shouldn't be too far away from getting into that squad, if he has a solid season this year I'd expect him to be in the squad or very close to making it.

I have a feeling we won't see much more of Bacuna at Aston Villa.

Certainly not in Central Midfield ahead of any of Cleverley/Westwood/Sanchez/Delph

Joe Cole would probably be ahead of Bacuna too.

I agree his distribution can be hit and miss, but I dont think were going to see much of the ball to be honest.

Yeah but when we do have the ball it's important to have a reliable passer over a hit and miss passer.

I don't think he's far off Delph's standard and Delph has had a call up, and performed very well.

I'm not saying Westwood is good enough right this second. But continue improving and I wouldn't be surprised if he's number 73.

Quite, I know what you're saying. I do have a counter argument to that but it would be going way off the topic of Westwood :thumb:

If Colback can get a call up to the england side then Westwood can

2 different types of players, can't compare them. Westwood compare against the likes of Henderson and Wilshere. Westwood is not better than any of those players in current time. Might be in the future, but not now.

Yeah I get what you're saying and Bacuna would offer more energy and be a bit stronger for when we don't have the ball,  just comes down to personal preference I guess.

Delph is more comparable to Henderson and Wilshere IMO. More comparable (obviously not as good) to Carrick and late Gerrards and Lampards.

I have a feeling we won't see much more of Bacuna at Aston Villa.

Thought the same thing after the Stoke game, We put together a great move with a string of passes to lay it off for Bacuna.

When we returned to the coach park the ball was on my seat

I've never thought he's been good enough on the ball.

He's done really well at times for us and I can't fault his effort. I like the guy.

I just don't think he'll be more than an occasional sub from now on, and probably sold in the summer.

Anyone expecting him to feature regularly on our midfield is going to be disappointed IMO.

I think Bacuna is a great utility guy to have on the bench in case of injuries since he can play in the center or anywhere up and down the left and right hand sides. His dead balls are a good threat too, we don't have a lot of set piece specialists (although Westwood is improving and N'Zogbia is back now, so even there we have more options than we did). I don't think we'll see Leandro start very much but he's a good squad option to have around.
