Trouble is it's a lot easier to get said two good reserve cbs warming the bench for top 4 clubs than mid table going nowhere in a hurry clubs.

Said two good cbs on the bench would want to move on like oh I don't know say Gary Cahill? I doubt he'd be desperate to leave Chelsea when Mourinho eventually benches him again for David Luiz as he'll still play games and win medals there.

Clark has been decent enough in most of the games he's played so I don't get why if Okore was magically fit he'd be poor back up?

Well they wouldn't be warming the bench now ......or probably for the bulk of the season.

Kozak didn't have any qualms about coming as Benteke's understudy...... anyone coming should had confidence enough to be picked ahead of Baker\Clark.....

Given the stick Lambert has taken from people for saying yet another striker in Kozak (including from me) when we desperately needed a number 10, do you not think people would've been criticising on him for getting another defender in?

Okore dosen't get an injury and suddenly we have 5 centre halfs on our books plus likes of Herd and Lowton who can fill in there in an emergency. A lot of resources to just one specific area.

As I say making sure we were covered for a Vlaar injury was top priority. - So there would have been no complaints from me if we didn't sign Tonev/Helenuis and got a another CB in - The less we have to rely on Clark\Baker the better.

5 first team centre backs is madness.

Name another team in the PL with 5 first team CB's (players that can play centre back don't count otherwise I'd count Herd and Lowton for us).

It's just wasted money and money is at a premium at the Villa at the moment.

Vidic, Evans, Smalling, Ferdinand, Jones.

Different as they play Smalling and Jones at RB and even in midfield.

The question was clear. What other team has 4 completely specialised CB's?

we play Clark and Baker at full back. We play Herd at CH and RB and midfield. We play Lowton at CH and RB. We play Bacuna at RB (and not midfield) ..... your point is what exactly?

My point was what team has MORE THAN FOUR CB's? That was made very clearly and you've obviously completly missed it.

FIne I'll give you United even though I wouldn't call Jones purely a CB as he plays in other positions not just out of neccessity. How many times do Baker/Clark play at LB when we have Luna/Bennett fit? How much game time would Herd get at CB with Okore/Vlaar fit?

Don't know why you're mentioning Lowton/Herd/Bacuna when I very clearly said this.

Why would any team buy 5 CB's unless they're incredibly versatile like Jones or United? If we had 4 CB's then a talented CB/FB that could comfortably fit into either then I'd agree with Smetrov, but having 5 pure CB's is silly and a waste of money.

in fairness Baker is 4th choice in that he is ok for the odd game or two but having him consistenly playing damages the team. He is a fine 4th choice but as 1st choice unfortunately he is behind the other 3

True, he is quite far behind the other three top. Baker is good when we are on too (in control) but as soon as we are under pressure he is a massive problem.

yeah but United centre halfs are actually centre defenders. Smalling was a centre half at Fulham adn Jones at Blackburn, have been forced out of position but are natural centre defenders

You're missing my point. I accept that they're both CB's but both are played in other positions; not by necessity. For example, Jones is played in midfield even when they have other options fit.

It's obviously a tough question.

We have 4 dedicated CB's.  Name the teams that have MORE than 4 dedicated CB's.
