ender4
I don't see any reason to change it. Petrov has been a good captain for us, the lads seem to like him, he has done nothing wrong and certainly nothing to take the armband off him. I don't see a better leader in the current squad. Obviously if he cannot recover enough to play semi-regularly then that forces a change. Toss up for me then between Dunne and Given. Absolutely 0% chance you will see Petrov this season. also a 0.001% chance that he'll play competitive football for us ever again, and a 0.1% chance he'll ever play top level football anywhere again. Its going to take him at least a couple of years to recover, by which time he'll be pushing 35.
jimbojames
Was Holt norwich captain? Yeah he was not that he started every gam. Difficult one, I would like it to be a centre back preferrably someone we havent signed yet although if Clark is a regular I'd pick him.
b6bloke
None of them! I think we have lacked a real leader in the team for a few seasons.

Mantis
Why the calls for Gardner? He's hardly even played. :?
Papillon
Petrov? Silly. The man is battling to save his life, let alone trying to play football at a high level again.
CI
Shay Given is the obvious choice Richard Dunne if he is staying perhaps Gabby not a captain for me Grant Holt may get it ?
AVFCforever1991
Anyone saying Clark or Gardner are just being silly, It would be way to much pressure on their shoulders they are only young, let them develop into first team regulars and then we can talk about captain... Rob182
Ireland? He gives his all, he is one of our best players (on his day). Though..... most people would be fuming at that decision, so.. Collins.
CI
Gardner Clark and particularly Herd are ridiculous suggestions Maybe in 4 or 5 years but not now
johndunse
If it's going to be someone who's at the club at the moment, then Given. But I'm hoping it will be a decent CB that'll be given the job.
PieFacE Posted June 7, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted June 7, 2012 There's no one in that list i'd want as captain. I suppose Given but I really do not like goalkeepers being captain.
coda
I know he's hardly flavour of the month around here but I think it'll be Dunne. He has the experience and is a senior squad member.
VillaGoMarching
Dunne's a fat arsed lazy fecker, he should be in the bin, not having the great honour of captaining our club.
bose
Alan Hutton or Stephen Warnock. Or Hitler.
troon_villan
If you were judged on the pitch then I would choose Collins but his off pitch antics means he's out, def not Gabby. Pffft, hopefully Lambert can sign someone to replace Petrov who is captain material.
Junxs
I know last season was one to forget but isnt it 2012/13 this coming season?
El-Reacho
I would be delighted if Clark, Gardner or Herd was appointed captain. It would give a real incentive for the academy graduates to take ownership of this team now similar to Ramsey at Wales rather than being understudies to Dunne/Collins/Warnock et al, which is what I think has caused their development to stall. I think Clark is more than capable and it would help his game rather than hinder it.
Ginko
That would just add way too much pressure to any of them, plus considering we're (hopefully) going to have a busy summer, I can't see many experienced players wanting to come to us only to be under the captaincy of a rookie. For the most part though, it's the added pressure on the young lads which is completely avoidable and unnecessary. I suspect it'll either be Dunne, Collins (if either of them stick around) or one of the new players brought in during the summer.
