Fairly sure Turkey have said over their dead body when it comes to having a Kurd state on their border

probably be the sweetener to fast track Turkey into the EU

I thought it was over the dead bodies of the inhabitants of Kobane....

The duplicitous role of Turkey in Syria/Iraq has largely been motivated by their desire to prevent this and what I assume is the next logical step which is increased pressure on internal fault lines and an attempt by Kurds in Turkey to join the new state and expand it.

Just waiting to seize the north of Iraq from the Kurds....

Kurdistan needs to be a nation state. They'd be a ready built western ally with a damn good fighting force.

Shame the coup didn't work in Turkey.

A damn good fighting force for what exactly? The last thing the ME needs is another proxy nation.

If you envision fighting ISIS... they are nothing more than a distraction as can be seen by their rapid dismemberment as soon as the Russians put the squeeze on. Also note the leaked DoD from circa 2012 that saw something ala ISIS being developed and tolerated while the strategic goals were being taken care of (Assad) and then they could be destroyed. Ah, the best laid plans...

Like all religious fantasies, utter, utter bollocks.

Not just small bollocks either. There is significant disagreement/uncertainty about the translation "virgins"... see raisins/angels etc. per google

For their freedom and our strategic interests. It helps to have friends, and all the better if they have a seat at the table.

Please expand upon what you believe "our" strategic interests are, and on whom "our" refers to. Can you imagine foreign nations deciding to arm the tea party, for a ridiculous example?

Does anyone think the Kurds will be given some territory to form a state? If not, why not?

They already have a de facto state in what was once called Iraq. The question is on whether they get to have some of Syria/Turkey too. Erdogan will provoke a casus belli and bomb them back to the stone age before this happens, and if he plays his NATO/Russia card right then the western nations will have to sit idly by... well modulo the dark arts practiced by the CIA etc.

False equivalencey, the Kurds are a people not a party. "Our" meaning the West's collective security interests, as well as the Middle East's. (not that I agree with most of the West's policies in the region).

Indeed they do but I think it is fair to assume when the dust settled on the ISIS conflict they are going to want more than a de facto state.

As you say the question is will they be allowed more? Will the West stand by them or will we abandon them again like we did in the early 90's? Is the West willing (or indeed able due to NATO) to oppose Turkey's undoubted objections?

Erdogan seems hell bent on turning the clock back to the Ottomen Empire while the Kurds will be seeking yet another redrawing of boundaries by the West in the region.

As and when ISIS are gone the real problem of what comes next begins.
