Ciaran Clark, Aston Villa's London-born central defender, has been approached to play for the Republic of Ireland.

Clark, 20, who has captained the England under-20 team, qualifies to play for the Republic through his grandmother.

Despite already playing for England at youth level, FIFA rules still allow him to switch allegiance and play for the Republic.

He is currently considering the offer from the Football Association of Ireland.

I just realised we could do a caption contest with the image below

Sidwell "Ciaran, go there....."

Clark mutters to himself "I'm sure we are a player short, where's Steve"

Sidwell "Ciaran, I'm here, I've been here all game!!"

Ciaran "where the feck is he, maybe it is true, maybe he is invisible, I hate gingers anyway"

Collins (out of shot..) "WHAT?"

He's a future England captain, surely?

I'm half Scot half English with the lineage to play for Ireland, but that lad is 3/4 English with a paddy grandma.

Btw Costa del Sol (Baker) is from Dines Green in Worcester.

If Ireland want to bring these guys on board we really need to start quailifying for some tournaments. Would be delighted if he switched allegiance, as there'll be a huge void in the Irish defence when Dunne's gone. Not to mention Keane and Given.....
