Barry Bannan

We need to turn him into Paul Scholes.

He's the right mould physically, he has a very sweet left foot on him, we just need him to sit back and break into the box at key times if needed. I think he could do this or the 'Pirlo' kind of job. He has decent technique so he could be our metronome if the game calls for slowing down or speeding up.

Think thats why he's bought westwood, to sit back and dictate the tempo of the match. e.g. Pirlo

Bannan's better up and around the opponents box.

Am surprised he has dropped out of favour do much, seemed he was getting a good relationship with kea, and more than any other of our midfielders could pick a forward pass... Against the top teams we may need to go 5/3 (depending how you see it) in the middle and feel he would really suit this role

Bannan hasn't cemented a first team place in probably the worst midfield we've had for some time due to the simple fact he is no better than a Championship player and comparing him to Scholes or Pirlo is clutching at the proverbial desperate straw!

Think he needs to start against Norwich.

The suggestion that "he needs to start against Norwich" just proves how shit our Midfield is. Bannan is a Champsionship standard player at best. We really are scrapping around for solutions aren't we?

Bannan with a beer in his hands what a surprise

I wish i could steal a career the way he does

Perhaps we could make his dream come true and send him packing to Celtic the championship is more his level after all.

For me he'd be a starter each week in a midfield of 5. Occasionally he does the "Hollywood ball" which everyone keeps referring too but at least he's trying to make things happen rather then just pass it sideways/backwards. As said above our ball retention is a lot better when he's in the team, he's constantly moving into space and giving players an option to pass too. I think he's incredibly underrated by most Villa fans.

I've said it a million times already but our midfield is just too weak to play as a 4, specially against teams playing with 5 in midfield.

I remember against QPR last season Bannan was given the role of playing "in the hole" and he was the center of everything good for us (think he scored a penalty too). Since then he's never played there and has been pushed out wide a lot which really isnt his game.

Oh no, how dare a 20-something year old watching his football team play have a beer before the match. Sack him now *rolls eyes*

I think he is overated. The fact that Ireland who hasnt done anything special is rated above him says it all.

Could perhaps do a job coming on late in a game but he is not a Starter.

The fact he is always pictured with a beer in his hands shows he hasnt the mental strength to really push himself beyond what he is now

But surely shouldn't a 20-something year old ,who isn't in the starting eleven for the football team that pays his wages,be better off putting in extra time on the training pitch

For all we know he works harder then everyone else as it is? Fact is none of us know. Having a go at a lad for having a beer before a football match is a bit tragic really. If he was absolutely shitfaced and fighting then yeah fair enough, have a go. But he's hardly doing much harm by having a picture taken with a beer?

I hate the fact that fans expect footballers to be something other than human, I say fair play to him if he's having a drink and meeting fans, i'd rather he did that then act all high a mighty like a lot of footballers do and not socialise with fans.

Not having a go at the lad. Just saying that ,if he is putting in a shift into training, and still not getting into the first team

,then obviously that's not enough.

I agree footballers are human beings, but some more professional than others
