Everton have done really well IMO. A midfield three of Barkley - Barry - McCarthy will destroy most teams outside of the top 5-6. And Lukaku will score. I don't think they'll miss Fellaini that much. And on top of it all they're like 10 mil in the plus. Damn good job by Martinez.

Must already be written in this thread but Man Utd really have had their pants pulled down by Everton haven't they. £27.5m for a player who Moyes knew had a release clause last month of £23m??? There are not many industries where someone (Moyes) could make a cockup costing his employer >£4m and still remain in his post.

As above though, great business all round by Martinez and Kenright.

I'm not sure Bale is worth twice as much as Ozil. Same age, admittedly different players, but would you really get rid of Ozil to bring in Bale?

Values are what they are and you can argue about them until the cows come home but I think Bale is a better player than Ozil. He is certainly more of a goal threat and he proved last year he can play just as well centrally or on the right as he had been playing down the left. Tracking Bale and Ronaldo is going to be a nightmare for opposition teams this season.

That said, Ozil is a wonderful player. He might be the spiritual successor to Pires. He is probably there best player in Arsenal's squad.

I think the Premier League as a whole has got a lot stronger as a result of this summer's window. The only real loss has been Bale, while we've seen strong arrivals including the likes of Oezil, Lamela and Willian. That said, I don't see any of 'our' teams being capable of challenging for the Champions League.

I bet Momo Sissoko won't have to wait for long to find a new club. I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up in PL, would be good addition to almost any PL club.

Apparently going to Reading ? Weird one. I know he's not a great "footballer" as such but he can definitely be effective as a big scary bastard in midield. I wouldn't mind having him in our squad that's for sure

Destroy teams really? Barclay looks good but doesn't have many games under his bet, think we will see some inconsistent displays from him. Barry is good still and will add good experience. Never seen the hype in McCarthy, never stood out for me. Decent player yes, but never worth what Everton paid.

Think they will be decent enough in possession but don't really strike fear into opposition defence and without possession can definitely be got at..(very similar to our midfield three)

Yes destroy, I think they'll be that good. They're nothing like our midfield 3 at all and they all have the advantage of being able to play in a 2-man central midfield, unlike any combination of Villa midfielders, as has been on display against Lpool yet again.

I think your expectations for them far outweigh mine then. I think Everton will finish above us because of the defence they have, but I don't think they will be as good as last yr under Moyes.

As for the comparison with ourselves, I think they are very similar in style. Barry is a very similar mould to Westwood in that he keeps teams ticking over. Yes at this stage I would say barry is a better player, but it doesn't mean that aren't similar styles. McCarthy is similar in style to Delph in that he can do a bit of everything. Then Barkley is probably a bit different  to KEA/Bacuna. As for playing in a midfield two, Barry has barely done that in the last few yrs, and when he has he  had Toure alongside him. Think he will struggle in a two now.

We have two problems ..

The first one is that our wingers are actually striker so they couldn't play in a midfield 4 .. well Gabby might .. I'm not sure if Tonev would or not .. We could play Bacuna anyway ..

The second one is that we haven't try a midfield of KEA and Sylla I think they could do a good job Defensively ..

Best player in Arsenal's squad? By the end of the season he could be considered the best player in the league. I just wonder are the other Arsenal attackers good enough to take proper advantage.

A midfield duo of KEA and Sylla would probably sit way too deep, opening an enormous hole between them and Benteke - it would invite teams deep into our half. That's also a problem with the current midfield setting, but it would be even more exaggerated if we try KEA and Sylla in a 4-4-2. In my opinion our midfield options are extremely limited tactically.

Although the transfer window closed on Monday, there are still plenty of free agents available for clubs to sign. However, with clubs having to submit their 25-man squad lists for the Premier League, these players might not be able to play unless there is space available. With Carlton Cole looking set to re-join West Ham, there is hope for these 11 players yet.

Craig Gordon

Three transfer windows have now come and gone since Gordon was released by Sunderland at the end of the 2011/12 season. Only 30-years-old, the Scot is relatively young compared to some of the veterans in this XI and considerably young for a goalkeeper. Once pulled off the “best save in football history” according to the title of this video.

William Gallas

The only player to have played for Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham may be reluctant to leave London, having spent the last 12 years there. Crystal Palace were said to be interested as recently as last week while the 36-year-old was also to be in talks with Melbourne Victory, according to this article, which uses the word “marquee” an impressive seven times.

Sotirios Kyrgiakos

The former Liverpool centre back was released after an unsuccessful spell at Wolfsburg, where he was loaned out to Sunderland last year. According to Wikipedia, the 34-year-old Greek “is known for his powerful heading”. I know him as ‘that guy whose name I can’t spell’.

Titus Bramble

Incredibly, nobody has snapped up Bramble, who has been a Premier League mainstay since 2002. Spent time training during the summer training with West Ham and his first club, Ipswich but neither side offered the 32-year-old a contract, despite the fact that he once took on the Crossbar Challenge and won (Mido lost).

Ricardo Gardner

Released by Bolton after 14 years and 410 appearances between 1998 and 2012, the Jamaican had an unsuccessful trial with Real Salt Lake during the summer. If it doesn’t work out, he’ll always have his music career, something he’s a lot better at than most footballers turned singers.

David Bentley

Having spent the last two years on loan, Bentley was released by Tottenham at the end of last season. Recently turned 29, the winger has reportedly attracted interest from European giants Levski Sofia, FC Utrecht and Espanyol. His attempts to switch to a career as a story-teller has not been a success.

Mahamadou Diarra

Released by Fulham after one season, Diarra enjoyed a successful spell at Real Madrid until he was replaced by his namesake Lassana Diarra. By the time you read this, the 32-year-old could in fact be back at Fulham so time for this writer to pull the finger out.

Yossi Benayoun

Another player who was in talks with free-agent chasers Crystal Palace last week, the Israel captain was also linked with Getafe. After failing to break into the Chelsea team, Benayoun was loaned to Arsenal and West Ham in the past two seasons before being released. Can do things with the ball that few others can match.

Stephen Hunt

Presumably spent the summer running around like a mad man in search of a new club after being released by Wolves. The Waterford man was linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Valenciennes but wants to stay in England. In May, the 32-year-old told Balls that he will probably cut his hair short when he retires so let’s hope that doesn’t happen for a few years yet; we’re not sure we couldn’t handle it.

Mladen Petric

Amazing that nobody has come in for a player who has played for Croatia as recently as March. Released by Fulham after just one season, Petric was linked with Reading in August. Like Gary Doherty, Petric can also be deployed as a defender.

Ivan Klasnic

Completing an all Croatian strikeforce, Klasnic was linked with Liverpool and Deportivo La Coruna after Bolton’s relegation in 2012. Eventually he joined Mainz but played just 67 minutes of football for the club last season.

Does anyone have a list of free agents still available?  For example Carlton Cole

Momo Sissoko was released today as well. dont think many great free agents out there for us

I misread that at Moussa Sissoko, was about to say snap him up. Newcastle would really be going tits up if that started to happen  :P
