The only way to score runs seems to be to do it quickly. Marsh, Stokes, Wood and Crawley scoring at good rates. Difficult pitch to bat time on by the look of it.

Think it's more the pacey outfield to be honest.  It's rewarding slogging with runs, even if the risks are there.

It is partly this but not a single batsman has been able to play a normal test match innings here and score runs. I think the pitch is making sticking around a long time pretty difficult so cashing in while you can has been essential.

Broad 2 behind McGraths record of dismissing Atherton (19). Would love him to break that this series

And all the wickets today apart from maybe Roots, were given away and i found that really disappointing. Today was the chance to play proper cricket and build a decent first innings lead.

Now we are just playing catchup again

The fact we have won every toss and had the best of the conditions sums up Australia have the edge this series

this is the problem when you pick a team based on the golf course rather than ability and form

You could possibly forgive Bairstow the 8 easy dropped catches (it might actually be more than that )  from the series if he was batting well and scoring 50's each innings  .. but he's only performed once with the bat

he'd played 2  first class matches after a year off with injury and the selectors thought he was ready for the Ashes  ... there should be a long hard look when this Ashes is over , even if we were to somehow come back from this

We say this every series, and the ECB never learn

Yet another drop from bairstow, farcical.

In the spirit of cricket the Aussie lad should have walked

Olsen has safer hands than Bairstow

What is up with the fielding by England in this series, Root dropped a couple in the first innings as well as Bairstow. Those drops have cost the team big time in this test match. England used to be pretty switched on in the field in recent years.

Because the fish rots from the head down. Poor keeper means sloppy slips. Same as terrible top order means the middle order are fighting for their life every match.

If only we had a brilliant keeper who was a good defensive anchor with the bat for the middle order.

Two brain dead dismissals from Australia. Smith and Labuschagne caught the England virus. Let's hope they give the remaining 7 away quickly too
