Saw the new Bond. It's a decent Bond flick, I felt it may have dragged a little at the end. But overall it was entertaining. I think it lacked structure and I think Mendes wasn't the right director. I prefer Casino Royal, but this was better than Quantum of Solace.

After the first scene gets you back into the Suspend Disbelief of Bond world it's got enough entertainment to be enjoyable enough. Say 3 stars.

It was good to have seen something in the cinema that wasn't a complete turd like Looper or very very boring like Killing Me Softly.

Picture ain't working, BOF.

I'm not a Star Wars fan (at all - one of the most hideously overrated series of all time) so I guess the whole deal isn't the kind of thing to really get my blood pumping. It could be interesting to see what Disney decide to do with the series, my own thoughts are the series is probably better left alone as far as cinema goes.

Incidentally, the idea that George Lucas will be able to complete some long in the planning 9 film saga with these is a joke - he's fiddled with the series so often anything he says with regards a canon or whatever is nonsense. The thing started out as the saga of Mace Windu when he first took it to execs, and he's also famous for adding in characters and creatures so he could sell more toys. And thats without even considering that he doesn't have a **** clue how to plot anything - hence why the prequels (also known as 'I'm making it up as I go along' - another shot at the idea there was some great plan to the series beyond 'Make a shitload of money') are awful.

Disney will have him as a consultant but will do whatever the **** they like. There is an 'expanded universe' story that is considered canon that continues past Return of the Jedi, but that will be binned.

I saw a documentary of the making of the first three films a week ago or so, and it was always going to be about Luke Skywalker, who happened to be called Luke Starkiller in the first script. Thank God they changed that. The absolute first thing he thought wasn't 9 films, hardly even 3 films, but as it went along it was in the end 9 films. The first time I heard about it being 9 films all in all was in 1985ish, so it's nothing new or anything that's come up in the last years. And the first one was called episode IV for a reason.

The Disney thing is that they are what Lucas always wanted to stay away from. A huge company that wants to keep control of everything.

Off to watch Frankenweenie today. Seems to have decent reviews and the trailer made me laugh, so I'm looking forward to it.

Really enjoyed it. It pays alot of homage to early Universal studios horror movies and If you have any knowledge of those then your enjoyment will be amplified.

Watched this last night. Not a bad directorial debut from Ben Drew (PlanB) with a fractured narrative that intertwines the lives of the main characters together. It's well directed, convincingly acted and gritty. My only real complaint is that a couple of the sequences drag a little and it could have done with being 20 mins or so shorter.

Still, much better than his music eh? :)

Empire Strikes Back is fantastic, and head and shoulders above any other film in the series. This was largely down to a director who focused on character, and allowed the story to exist in that universe without making a show of how different everything is. All the best sci-fi does that - all the sci-fi elements fill the canvas and no more. The more Lucas-driven films are the exact opposite, and have all the toys on show and any character development tossed aside.

Which is strange, considering American Graffiti is a wonderful film, and entirely character driven.

I can see why people may have liked it. I was just bored too much. Especially by James Gandolfini. Every scene was a snooze fest. Some great scenes in there too. Just one of those movies that doesn't click maybe. I was bored. His other movie, Jesse James was much better.

As for Star Wars, my mate used to be a nut. Mainly because he has been an original figure collector and has a full collection. He's of course delighted by this news. His collection will go up in value year after year as the franchise is kept in the spotlight. He has a missile firing boboa fet if people know what that is.

But I'm not him, so I just loath the thought of the franchise continuing, along with Indy. Die repeat cinema die die die.

I think I need to let cinema go the way of music. Become a secondary interest. TV shows are eclipsing it, totally.

Disney bought Marvel didn't they? If Star Wars ended up in the hands of Whedon then it could all be ok.

If not, then ****.

Always thought Serenity / Firefly was only a couple of tweaks away from a Star Wars sequel anyway. Browncoats for rebels, give River Jedi powers, and make the Operative a Sith. And Mal is basically Han Solo anyway.

Watched Blade Runner for the first time in ages last night. Stunningly beautiful film, not without flaws, but remarkable to look at, considering it was made long before CGI. The sets and effects were so well done, just true artistry through and through. Some fantastic photography.
