The Film Thread

Watched Blade Runner for the first time in ages last night. Stunningly beautiful film, not without flaws, but remarkable to look at, considering it was made long before CGI. The sets and effects were so well done, and the direction had true artistry. Some fantastic photography.

I read somewhere or it was a booze induced dream that they are going to make another film :I

Yeah, I heard Michael Fassbender is gonna be in it...for me it's one of those films you should just leave alone. Like The Warriors, which I hear they're planning on remaking....

I can see why people may have liked it. I was just bored too much. Especially by James Gandolfini. Every scene was a snooze fest. Some great scenes in there too. Just one of those movies that doesn't click maybe. I was bored. His other movie, Jesse James was much better.

Haha, we have the opposite view of the film then, as I thought Gandalfini was the highlight of it! (said as much in this thread when I saw it)

Thought his performance stole the show, despite it being a small role.

A remake of The Warriors could be good, as long as they do it like The Raid, and have no Rappers star in it. (unless it's mos def)

Holes all through Skyfall which made it feel a bit raw to me. It seemed to be missing a clever little reveal which linked a few points together.

SPOILERS:

- The gamekeeper in Bond's house has been there for 30+ years alone. Right, I'll believe that, but he didn't know what Bond did for a living (said it in the shotgun scene, and kept calling M 'Emma') so wouldn't have been a tad more inquisitive about why there were hoards of men coming to kill them all? Seemed to accept it rather easily.

- Why did the bad dude pause and look at Bond's parents' gravestones? I was thinking there was going to be a mad twist like it was Bond's brother or something?

- In the outhouse thing where M eventually gave it up, why did the bad guy give the little speech about it being "perfect"? Why was it perfect? Because it was an old church? Again, I thought this was leading to a big reveal.

- What the hell was that weird gay scene about, unbuttoning Bond's shirt? Very strange to throw that in.

If they want to go all realism and dark, then they become open to criticisms like this I'm afraid. Loved the funnier cheesy bits like the Aston, everything Q did and the random sex. Decent film, not the best Bond ever.

I'm not sure unusual goings on with the plot are best aimed at Bond films, given its the male fantasy film.

I thought the game keeper was good comic relief. The film was very good. Up there in my top three with from Russia With Love and Casino Royale. I enjoyed the final act. Very unique for a Bond film. Almost Batman Begins meets Straw Dogs.

The film has made me want to jump in the car and motor up into the Highlands. What scenery.

I found Skyfall really disappointing. It took forever to get going and I may have totally missed something but I have no idea how he survived the start. The dialogue for the first half was all shit one-liners, it improved once the bad guy came into it but that was after an hour. I like my Bond films to be full of gizmos, girls, exotic locations and cars, it just didn't feel right in a lot of ways. I thought Casino Royale was Bond's 21st century rebirth and then the films from then on would be proper Bond films but this seemed like yet another needless rebirth, it's like they've gone from ripping off the Bourne films to ripping off the Dark Knight films. It's still worth watching at the cinema as a stand-alone action film but just didn't seem to fit the whole Bond thing properly.

A bit hit and miss. Unsettling at times but loses its way (just like Kill List did).

Cheers for that one Coda, it had slipped under my radar and sounds intriguing. Added it to my LoveFilm list.

I don't feel like it's ever added anything to a film, and you're right, it definitely affects the quality.

It's ok as a light hearted gimmick. But a gimmick is all it is and I wouldn't want it on a film I'm looking forward to.
