The Film Thread

I went to see 'Skyfall' last night and really enjoyed it. Up there with the best of the Bond films in my opinion.

On another note, I've just booked my ticket to see 'The Hobbit' on the 13/12 in the IMAX. Get on it if you plan on seeing it at an Odeon cinema as I'm guessing the tickets will go fast...

Saw Skyfall last night, was so annoyed I was going to post a long deconstruction of how bad it was, but decided that everyone seems to love it so much (not just on here) people would think I was trolling,

I'm just going to say, that I found it really, really boring. And as the praise is so universal and vociferous, I just wanted to validate my own sanity and ask, is their anyone else out there that didn't think it was good?

While I don't think it's a bad film by any means, Skyfall has been given a very easy ride imo. It just isn't as good as it's being made out to be. Talk of it being the best Bond film is nonsense.

At least, I'm not going completely mad then.

I just wish Dredd had got all the free publicity Bond has had, because it doesn't look likely to get a sequel now, and I was looking forward to that.

I'm with you, although I did think it was good. It's not the best Bond ever though, and it was a bit too silly in some parts and a bit boring in others.

Certainly not better than Casino Royale. I'm not even sure it was better than Quantum of Solace in my opinion. It looked absolutely beautiful and it started off with a really great sequence, but after that it just fell apart a bit. The bit in the skyscraper was pretty cool, but overall there were too many wisecracks and it just wasn't serious enough. I like serious Bond. I realise they were harking back to past Bond films since it's 50 years and all that, but I like Bond set in the real world. The ending was a bit shit too. I just didn't think that bad guy was bad enough.

Casino Royale 2006 is still my favourite by quite some way. I was quite a bit disappointed by Skyfall, although it's certainly still a very good film. I'd go into some other negative things but they'd be spoilerific.

Disney have just bought Lucasfilm. $4bn.

Star Wars is about to get its dead horse flogged a little more...

Episode 7 is due out in 2015 apparently, first I've heard of it. Oh well, back to the underside of my rock I go.

Ha, Episode 7 announced within the hour of the deal being announced. Like **** clockwork.

Edit - Scratch that, 3 new films announced. There won't be any corpse to flog at that rate.

Could go either way, there are so many talented writers and directors that would probably kill to get their hands on that franchise. If put in the right hands, could be great again.

Just back from Skyfall

Thought it was a bit Meh if I'm honest , was like a link up film for a reboot

It was going to be a 3/10 from me but it picked up a bit and more like a 5/10 by the end

The Campaign. Starring Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianikas (probably the wrong spelling)

Some funny parts. I'm a big fan of these two so when I knew they were doing a film together I knew it would be funny. 7/10 for me.

As for Star Wars... I honestly can't put into words how shit I think Star Wars is! You can add Star Trek to that as well. Those sort of things are not for me at all.

Lucas planned 9 films from the beginning and said that it depended on the last film, Revenge of the Sith, if he was to make the last 3. IIRC they were about to be about Luke Skywalker. I always wanted him to do them, although I wanted him to do them like he did the first 3. In the hands of Disney, McGrath knows what it'll be like. Still, looking forward to it. 2015 I will be 40, still young enough to watch it. :D

Edit: And with the first 3 I mean the old ones.

I have more faith in Disney than I do Lucas so if 3 more films happen I hope his involved is incredibly limited. That being said I can't see it going well but like the rest of the suckers that loved episodes 4-6 I'll still pay money to see them.
