The novel is kinda grim, and gritty. There are aspects of that in the original film sure, but what I like about the film is all the OTT 80s stuff which isn't in the book. Exactly this. Read the book when I was a teenager and really enjoyed it. The "game" involves running in real live, so more akin to "Hunted" or similar show but set in dystopian society where the wealth is with the few and the majority of people are poor and hungry. People get cash rewards for calling you in as well so added incentive to make it difficult. Whilst I enjoyed the film, it is very different in that sense. Not really sure why they are remaking it but if Edgar Wright is remaking the film, meh but if he was making a new film based on the book, I would be very worried! Big Salad
Anyone else has watched a movie somewhat recently that you loved from childhood but when you watch it now as an adult, you realize it is absolute trash? That was the case with me last night when I watched 'Howard the Duck'. Loved this as a kid, watching it several times a month, but now as an adult when I watched it...just an utterly awful movie. Howard the Duck came in to my head as I was reading the bold bit, I Vaguely remember super LOLs when it came out and found it bizarre and very strange even this time around. Ps... weirdly, Mark Kermode rates this film Edit..... spell check underperformed on this occasion Edited February 23, 2021 by Phil Silvers

Most of the vintage porn, far too many fuzzy bits, perms, crystal tipped hair, unbleached bumholes, German voice overs and moustaches

It was OK, more or less true. Plenty of YT vids pointing out where it wasn't. Watched News of the World last night. Decent western starring our favourite celebrity Villa fan.
Bizzzle
I watched Boss Level last nigh which I thought was really good but I am a sucker for a time loop movie. Some of the special effects I thought were a bit dodgy mind. Solid 7.5/

mjmooney Posted February 23, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted February 23, 2021 I Care A Lot. Really enjoyed it. Very reminiscent of Breaking Bad in many ways.
Ingram85
Laputa:CitS. Enjoyed it a lot but not my favourite one, the last 20 minutes or so were very unsatisfying after what the rest of the film had built up. Would have loved to explore Laputa a little more and I felt the self contained world needed one or two more characters to meet and more depth/substance to it instead of just being a floating relic. I dunno. Still great though. The characters we did meet throughout were all fantastic and charming. 8/10.
Zatman
I Care A Lot really entertaining film, Rosamund Pike is not just one of the best around at the moment but she is definitely one of the best to play an asshole character as well

And I like them all.
Phil Silvers
Odd man out 1947 Recommended for those in to watching old classics, its on tomorrow morning 10.40 on talking pictures. Beautifully shot and directed, a great James Mason performance, a very atmospheric thriller, highly recommend for those that haven't seen it.
