Not convinced our recruitment strategy should be determined by Spurs mate of yours

In fairness he was shite for Spurs

However, I trust Unai and if he feels the player fits then it's all gravy

Was he ? Or was he part of a dysfunctional team with a head case manager hell bent on self destruction. Outside Kane who wasn’t shite for spurs ? Think it’s a wise signing if it comes off and I’m excited by it - competition breeds quality

Well, yes, he was shite for Spurs, I don't think that can really be questioned.

What you've given is the possible reasons for that shiteness and I'm happy to go with that. Hopefully a different team, with a better manager, and we will see a much better player

It was a Spurs team in 4th CL position for most of the season until Conte has his meltdown. Spurs decided to go for a younger new CB position rather than an ageing one with the new manager.

Doesnt make him a bad player.

To be fair mate I didn't say I was against the signing, and many players at Spurs underperformed last season. Let's see how he does if he signs.

It always amazes me how many people can't spot when someone's clearly a good player, but just underperforming because they're in a very dysfunctional side, or even having bad luck.

Look at Bissouma was brilliant at Brighton under proper coaching and system, joins the madhouse at Spurs and under performs.

Also system football means you need to know what profile the player has and what role they are to play in your system. Mings and Pau are both left footed CBs but are really different profile of player.

He sounds like the ideal loan signing to cover the LCB position while Ty recovers. His passing style will fit with ours and he’s not going to be first name on the team sheet anyway. He’ll rotate with Pau. As a loan signing it’s as good as it gets for what we need.

Where else are you going to find a left footed, ball playing centre back with European experience and a year playing in the Prem. He’s also a specialist in a back three. As a cover for Mings it’s a no brainer

A very under the radar, pragmatic signing. Unai knows best how to make those deals work.

Neil with good breakdown, analysis and sensibility as usual. I've really warmed to this :

His Marcus Alonso one was enlightening too!  Didn’t realise Alonso is 6’ 2” and had similar aerial duals won as Tyrone Mings.

If nothing else, you can see why he came into consideration
