Although Osborne still has some public influence, I'm not sure anyone's going out of their way to whip up a scandal like this to save his arse, he's surely not got that kind of credit in the bank? If he was still in government I'd be more open to the idea, but I don't buy it.

Him and Cameron are the fathers of austerity and are as much to blame for the state of the public services as the more recent Tory shower. Casting doubts on his character also casts doubt over his judgement, and the decisions they made. Imho.

I know it's not illegal or anything, but I really can't understand why not many on here are even condemning it. certainly if someone on here, say over the age of 50 for example, said, they did the same thing, obviously for less money or gifts, it would be a totally out of order.

Have you ever looked at porn featuring adult women a fair bit younger than you?

We’ve had confessions of far worse on here

This was always about Murdoch vs the BBC.

Johnson and Osborne are mere pawns in Murdoch’s game, expendable and of no real importance, not only that but both are really agents of media rivals and not Murdoch

I'd have a fairly low opinion of someone who went out of their way to specifically look for "barely legal" porn or something along those lines, it's legal but properly grim to (as a significantly older person) deliberately seek out content for people just over the bare minimum legal age. Yet I have very little doubt that at some point in recent years I've probably inadvertently waxed my carrot to someone who happens to be around the same age, because sometimes it's not too easy to distinguish an 18 year old from a 25 year old, and I don't often feel the need to do my own due diligence when it comes to the age of porn stars.

We don't really know what happened, what he did, or what he knew when he did something, so what is there to really condemn?

It's just the position he's in really. One of the faces of the BBC and all that.

It's different but James Manford lost his presenting job on the One show years back for texting:

Jason Manford quits BBC's One Show | BBC | The Guardian

Quote

Jason Manford has quit BBC1's The One Show after admitting that he shared sexual messages online with female fans.

It is only three months since the stand-up comic took over the show with co-host Alex Jones after the departure of former presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley to ITV.

"Unwise but not illegal" etc but he was never going to continue fronting a family tea time show was he as optics wouldn't have looked good.

Same when similar story crops up on news at ten, ideally you'd want a presenter asking following up questions who's never been accused of any of it, it's not a gameshow type situation when you can just laugh it off.

Have the BBC completely dismissed the allegations against him from within their own organisation? I think another issue is the drip drip effect. Certainly not going to land him in court anytime soon but no chance they can risk putting him back on air anytime soon, not least due to the fragility of his mental health currently.

But he didn't do this. He paid for it, which is what I'm saying. Would you meet someone 18ish, find out who they are and offer them money for a nude pic?

I wouldn’t personally because I’m not into 18 year olds or into sending money to people for nudes, but I’m not sure it’s ethically much different from just looking at porn… especially if it’s on some kind of paid platform (eg OnlyFans or similar).

I agree it’s odd / unwise / seedy behaviour. Does it cross the threshold into being something we should all be up in arms about… not for me, but I get why people are uncomfortable with the age thing and the fact he’s married with kids. I still don’t think it remotely merits what has happened to him these last few days.

Hardly, both parents came to them with a story nobody would turn down. Reporting it isn't the issue here.

Err that’s not how it works. Journos are supposed to try and corroborate secondhand accounts. You can’t just splash hearsay.

That wasn't a no.

Your post kinda reads like looking at it is fine, but paying for it isn't?

So it's not OK for 50/60 year old men to buy porn or subscribe to an Only Fans account?
