Only difference with that is if a Man Ure player does it to a Villa player, it's somehow a Man Ure penalty.

It's a stonewall red. The ball is about a meter away from him and the other side of the player, I have no idea what he's doing. It's an absolute shocker of a challenge.

Robertson a few minutes later was also lucky to stay on the pitch.

Agree with the bold bit, but to be a straight red he needs to "endanger the safety of the opponent" or use "excessive force or brutality", which usually means flying in from a sprint or going in very high / with elbows / etc.

Same tackle from a sprinting start = clear red. Because he's already next to the player as he commits the foul, he probably just about gets away with it - or at least, VAR are willing to go with the referee's judgment.

One of those that would probably be a red card in previous seasons, but with the new guidance, is more down to referee discretion.

Nasty foul anyway, for sure.

Which is part of the problem...

It's not even a tackle you can get angry at from Fabinho. It's just absolutely pitiful and he knows it. Not malicious. Just pitiful. And his reaction says it all.

Time to go off to the MLS mate. Get a flight booked because you're done here .

Woeful. So far off the pace he's a danger to every professional on the pitch.
