Match Thread: Villa v Norwich

Glad to see Villa score as they haven't been much better than Norwich.

Too many unforced errors and the usual problem with the spacing on the pitch.

It was Williams who crocked Bailey so it was poetic justice he slipped for the goal.

Referee not good - misses the bad fouls and makes a palava of the minor ones.

Iroegbunam took a while to settle but has made some good challenges and interceptions.

Why do referees always pick on the young'ns?

the stats say it all, at home, 40% possession against the bottom team in the league.

Its not good.

Half our team just isnt good enough, hopefully there is a massacre within this squad in the summer.

We have a midfielder who isn't comfortable in possession. Once the undroppable man is actually dropped, that should make a big difference.

All in all, a pretty murky performance so far. It's hard to know what style we play if any, week to week. What is our identity?

The game is calling out for Buendia to inject some fire into the belly.

The manager has other ideas.

Obviously glad to be up a goal, but against better opposition we'd probably be losing this.

If Burnley lose today , does that basically make us safe?

I think if they lose today the best they can do is 42 points and if we win we will have 40.  They play us twice so I think we'd need one result.  But I can't see Everton getting 12 points from their last 6 matches.  So win today and we are 99% safe.

We ARE safe. Be realistic.

Let's wait and see who he brings in during the summer.  I don't think our spine is anywhere near good enough at the moment.  We were poor for 11 months before Gerrard arrived and he's only had a chance to change a couple of players so far.  Coutinho, Digne and Chambers are all (in my opinion) better than what we had before.  I hope that in the summer we finally make the midfield upgrades we need.

I hope so mate. I want him to suceed but we just do not look  very good. This team cost close to 200m to build yet we look utter dross at times ans cant do the simplest of things.thats not all in gerrard mind you

Classic idiots around me in the Lower Holte, moaning that Bailey wasn’t tracking back then also having a go at him when he went down to get subbed off. What do you want him to do?!

I reckon he carried on when he was clearly done, due to exactly this!

Due to how it's already gone for him here with regards to form and injury i'm sure he was worried about again looking like a " bottler ".

He's probably made whatever the actual injury was much worse by carrying on for about 20 - 25 minutes too long on it.

I actually feel sorry for him, it's not looking good at all for him here.

Especially since patience and " support " is in scarce supply.

I think his injury plagued start might have ruined him here altogether.

Final hope is now to bin him till summer.

He needs to work with specialists throughout the WHOLE summer to sort his body, strength, and imbalances out. Otherwise it's never going to work here. Needs to get much stronger in the joints etc.

It's extremely frustrating for me, especially as a Jamaican Villa fan because I also know the qualities he possesses.

However in the end, if he is going to be a detriment to the team, then the writing is on the wall.

Until Ings came on...what a boring half of football. Mostly sterile possession from both sides...and, embarrassingly, Norwich had more of it than we did.

While Ings has not been finishing his chances this year like we would have hoped, he brings something to our buildup play and it's no coincidence that we scored off one of his passes, nor is it any coincidence that he has the most goal contributions this year despite his meagre goal return.

Tim looks pretty good for his first start.

Too bad about Bailey, he seemed to be growing into the game.

Agree with your assessment of Ings and his importance overall. We should play with a front two.

Lack of fluidity and huge lack in intensity.

We look more disjointed and without a game-plan then when he first took over. Premier Sports guys ripped the performance to pieces and I didn’t disagree with anything

I think he is playing with a injury personally.  He seems cautious to run and have a pop like he did vs Everton when he scorsd then got injured
