Do you really think watching a video is going to make you fitter to press high and more often during a game? There’s different components of analysis which have developed over the last 30 years but they just give the coach more ready available information, the hard work is still done on the pitch and you have to know how to understand and deliver the information to the athletes.

Thats not what he said in the look me in the eye interview. I imagine he wasnt thinking right after the disastrous game. 

I am going to give him and Tyrone the benefit of the doubt and assume the best from the both. We will find out soon enough what the impact is on the pitch.

Yep I read it earlier was from football insider so not sure it it's accurate.

If and I say if its true Gerrard should be sacked immediately he's isolating all players now because its his way or the highway, sorry Steve this is out club why don't you do one.

I hated Bruce more than any other villa manager ever but Gerrard has gone to number 1 I cannot support or like him everything he's doing winds me up and the mutiny he's creating is alarming now for me he's lost the dressing room and that = game over

This has been posted and rubbished multiple times in the thread today already.

It seems the media " smell blood " as @Rustibrooks alluded to and can put out anything, knowing that some people who share a certain sentiment will latch onto and run with it.

The lie is always more entertaining than the boring truth.

It's actually quite shit that some fans are almost excited to run with some of these negative stories as well.

Thanks Jamaican I hope your right with the constant reports it hard to know what to believe or not. One thing Gerrard needs to sort this mess I'll support aston villa till I die but I'll not support him anymore I'll still be here when he's left ill just accept he's in charge but that's it.

Just exhausted by the negativity mate, the game was depressing enough, but the hangover on Villa socials is even worse.

Worse than it's been in a long time.

REALLY hoping we can put on a performance on the weekend to cheer people up and/or at least lighten the vibe a bit.

This whole episode has made me realize that all these micro-analyses of Steven Gerrard are comforting to a point because they give a sense of control and rationality, but then they turn into thin sauce. I wish we could theorise our way out of this mess, but it’s all on Gerrard and the squad’s performance now, and no amount of overthinking it or kvetching  or false positivity will touch the itch. 

It’s been said a million times before, so I hate to repeat the cliché, but … this feels truly like a must-win.

I’ve been pushing hard here and on Twitter to point out just how bad a job he is doing, mostly for cathartic reasons and I’m weary too. I’m weary of supporting a football club that doesn’t seem capable of doing it’s job properly for any sustained period. Top to bottom.

We’ve had a decade plus of shit, basically. The most fun we’ve had in that time was in the championship and by the end of that experience, all I could feel was relief tinged with despair at what lay ahead. 

I’m sick of supporting a football club that doesn’t seem to take the football side of it as seriously as it should, but I apologise if I’ve made somebody else feel even worse in the process. I can only speak for myself, but that’s not my intention.

I just believe that sometimes, we need to stand up and set the record straight. Because nobody is going to do it for us.

I don't think it's necessarily a win, I personally would settle for a semblance of a plan that works and shows signs of having learned from the opening day debacle. There's sometimes no legislating for an opposition goalkeeping masterclass (Max O'Leary style) or a bonkers deflection etc that may cost you 3 points. 

I would just like to watch us and think "okay, *this* is clearly what we are trying to be" instead of this convoluted, muddled wingbacks up the pitch and vacating the midfield nonsense that's failed over and over again for the last few months.

None of it makes basic footballing sense and smacks to me of a manager stubbornly refusing to adapt even when the evidence of a system/tactical failure is staring him in the face. Is it arrogance? If he doesn’t change very quickly then there is only one outcome…..another season lingering closer to the bottom 6, no where near the fantasy of top 8 and ultimately a new Villa manager by November. 

I honestly believe that he doesn’t know what he’s doing and doesn’t know what his best team is. After 9 months… it’s incredible.

He is not a coach or tactician…  he is lost without an assistant who is probably required to do a lot more than people in the same role at different clubs… I don’t see what he offers, I really don’t… spending money and mouthing off are not “attributes” that make someone a top manager…

I really hope we can put in a positive performance and give Everton a good beating but I just can’t see or feel it… I’m very concerned by this manager… I hope he can make people like me eat my words and turn us into a force… I just can’t see it and that’s why I’ve been angry and frustrated. And there’s only any point to beating Everton if we go from strength to strength from there, otherwise I fear it would be papering over cracks and delaying the inevitable or more poor performances and results…

I really, really don’t want to see us waste another season… we have to make the most of it…

Many of us feel the same… the most frustrating thing is that the opportunities have seemed to be there in more recent years or it has felt like we have been close to actually kicking on progressing but there is always some form of setback or “mismanagement” or negligence that continues to hold us back to derail us…

Under these owners, everything seems to be setup for success and has been going well away from the football pitch… it’s just that key area we can’t seem to get right… 

My fear under SG is that we are going to regress rather than progress and those opportunities will no longer be there…

Lets be honest, we made fast progress and had quick success under Dean… I hope I’ll continue to have fond memories of our record breaking run of wins, getting promoted and of that lockdown season. We were genuinely thrilling and entertaining to watch and beat some top sides. That 7-2 Liverpool result must never be allowed to be forgotten or ignored…

It was an amazing time under Dean to see almost the rebirth of this club, the revitalisation and progress after suffering and struggling for so long…

Derailed by JG leaving and further Covid outbreaks, injuries and loss of form. Forcing Ings & Watkins to play together while pissing about with a back 5 after our back 4 and GK were immense and proved to be solid the previous season.

Never sorting out or truly strengthening the midfield…

Some suspicious changes in the background and appointments such as Danks and McPhee…

Dean sacked… 

A lot of the goodwill, happiness, pride, connection, spirit, enthusiasm and optimism seems to have dissipated even further under SG and this feels like a major low point…

We are in desperate need of an uplift…

Probably because the people who were endlessly shouting down those who pointed out the signs of us being a bit shit have been there for months have gone conspicuously quiet. Hopefully we can improve from here.

I think it's because it was the first game and because it was sooooo bad. We go into a new season with fresh hopes and dreams, believing we can be bigger and better than we were. 

To then be destroyed by a team almost certain to go back down has just deflated everything. Is it an over reaction? Probably, though it does look like a continuation of the poverty of performance from the second half of last season.

Gerrard needs to look like he knows the issues and knows what he's doing rather than repeating the same mistakes week in week out. He needs to get a win against Everton and needs to do it in a way that suggests something to look forward.
