I.admire his efforts and tenacity in games but everytime I watch him I feel he just out of his depth.

Whether he is just trying to hard or he just not good enough.

I did.have my doubts when we signed him more so for the big price.

I think had he been brought for less we could give a him a bit of slack.

There are good players in the championship but most often have a glass ceiling, unfortunately I think his is lower prem which is where we don't want to be.

There are better players out there and importantly would cost less....or give better output for the same price....back to poor...well....mediocre.... recruitment again which is a different argument.

I would keep him...but definitely a position we need better in going into next season

He needs to up his game next season or there's the danger of him becoming a somewhat peripheral figure. He does some really lovely things at times, but the consistency is just not there.

I really think Harvey Barnes would be a great acquisition to this squad.

Harvey Barnes work rate off the ball is terrible. The one area Emery highlighted as main area of improvement next season

I absolutely think he has a role to play next season - it maybe more so in the cups and in particular Europe - where I think he will shine.

A pre season under Unai will see him just fine imo

My initial thoughts were the same...

However it also seems likely Villa will upgrade that position too.

I find myself liking Buendia but yet also feeling frustrated at times watching him.

He gets pushed off to ball too easily for my liking.

He does, yet at times and handle things quite well.

Case in point away to Wet Spam, Buendia was very good and had a few scuffles with Declan Rice and got the better of him a few times.

Won't be out of contract until 2026 and struggle to see who will want him.

Since 2022 - here are the teams he has scored and then assisted against.

Goals: Bournemouth, Everton, Leeds, Tottenham, Everton, Burnley, Burnley, Everton, Brentford

Assists: Brentford, Leicester, Burnley, Norwich, West Ham, Brentford, Leicester, West Ham

Considering he was dropped against Liverpool and Brighton and his form was very up and down prior to that, he might become something of a bottom 10 specialist given his passing ability.

His inability to win duels in the build up is a real black mark against him in Unai's system. His first touch and pass have to really be on the mark and think he got it wrong more than he got it right under pressure. When the opposition doesn't press as hard or don't rotate quickly enough to mark his initial touch, he can do some magic. But through 2022 and through 2023, he struggles against better marking in the build-up and then his final third decision making and delivery is underperforming so far.

Played in every game for us this season. He hit the bar and post a few times too and he has been unlucky not to get more assists. He's going to have competition for his place next season so needs to up his game or he'll be getting less mins. Though he's clearly a quality player who offers us something

He's one of my two favorite players (along with Mings) because he brings something to the side that nobody else does. He has an eye for the killer ball.

That said, I am not as blind to his flaws as I was 18 months ago. Certainly better players are out there. Whether we can bring one of them to VP is another question.

I think that JJ's continued improvement is going to hurt his playing time. The last couple matches suggest that Emery wants to have JJ, Doug, Kamara, and McGinn all in the side. If you play those 4 along with Ollie, that leaves one slot in midfield and attack, and whether Asensio is signed or not, our interest in him says that we're looking for a world class player clearly better than Buendia and Bailey to fill it.

Buendia will continue to be around as an impact sub, as a tactical option, and as cover.

Gets way too much criticism, baffling

I think peoples opinions on him, on this page in particular, are fair. He’s good, we like him, we’ll use him often next season but we should look for a better starter than him as he often gets bullied off the ball. It’s an observation not a criticism.

I don’t think he’s anywhere near as good as people say he is on here. He’s not a starter in a side with Leon Bailey - tells you all you need to know.

Will play a part next year given the amount of games we have to play, but he’ll be a fair way down the pecking order when it comes to our best xi.

I think he's alright, 6 or 7 out of 10 player most weeks

His problem for me is the belief that hes one of the easiest positions to upgrade because there are lots of very good players in that position dotted around europe, bailey is the same in that regard
