Scaloni is blaming Brazil who said they only found out today about this, they trained at the stadium last night

As I said in the other football thread someone in Brazil would have known about this the minute the squad was announced 2 weeks ago and sat on it so that it could explode

Their country is more important to them then our club. And rightly so.

Playing against Brazil is more important than Chelsea or Everton.

Mind blowing.

So what about the others that didn't go? In a global pandemic, when asked by their employers?

I don't like that the Brazilian authorities elected to let the game start before they took action - it suggests that they want to make a show of this - and that could be bad for the Emi's.

Hopefully they get out of Brazil tonight and aren't subject to any further action.

I don’t believe they had the threat of no longer being called up. This is on Argentina and the word removed of a coach.

edit: plus it sounds like the Brazilians couldn’t have gone anyway.

See below translation from Reddit of the Health Authorities statement.

Quote

Due to information that four Argentine players entered Brazil in breach of the country's sanitary rules, by allegedly declaring false information in an official form of the Brazilian sanitary authority, Anvisa met with representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Coordination of Control of Diseases of the São Paulo State Department of Health this Saturday (4/9).

After a meeting with the health authorities, it was confirmed, after consulting the passports of the four players involved, that the athletes failed to comply. rule for the entry of travelers on Brazilian soil, provided for in Interministerial Ordinance No. 655, of 2021, which provides that foreign travelers who have passed, in the last 14 days, through the United Kingdom, South Africa, Northern Ireland and India, are prohibited to enter Brazil.

The players in question declared that they have not passed through any of the 4 countries with restrictions in the last 14 days. The travelers arrived in Brazil by flight from Caracas/Venezuela to Guarulhos. However, unofficial news reached Anvisa reporting alleged false statements made by such travelers.

In view of the news, Anvisa immediately notified the Center for Strategic Information on National Health Surveillance (CIEVS/MS), which coordinates the CIEVS network, responsible for epidemiological investigation with the state of São Paulo and the municipality of Guarulhos, so that the if investigated and tracked.

Upon confirmation that the information provided by travelers was false, Anvisa clarifies that it has already communicated the fact to the Federal Police, so that measures within the scope of the police authority can be taken immediately.

There is a notorious non-compliance with the Interministerial Ordinance No. 655/2021 and the Brazilian immigration control rules.

Anvisa considers the situation a serious health risk, and therefore advised the local health authorities to determine the immediate quarantine of players, who are prevented from participating in any activity and must be prevented from remaining in Brazilian territory, pursuant to art. 11, of Federal Law No. 6437/77.

Apparently it was that that they only had it (lying on their declaration forms) confirmed today/last night, and ordered the players to stay in the hotel as quarantine. Hence why they only acted during the game, as it was only after the players left for the stadium that they were made aware they were also breaking quarantine.

That's their story anyway.

Thats an assumption though.

I've never said it was an easy situation for them but they made the wrong choice.

Still some BS. Could've stopped them as they entered the stadium, or even during warm-ups. Not several minutes into the game.

Argentina have tried to pull a fast one and it’s backfired. Fair play to the Brazilian authorities for not letting them take the piss.

the authorities expected the players to be in the hotel to be deported. Argentina pulled a fast one and brought them to the stadium

This is bullshit IMO. As if they’d lie on declaration forms and risk getting arrested.  It’s dirty politics and corruption. Simple as.

I’d say it’s a fair assumption considering it’s only Argentinians that went. They can’t be any more patriotic than every other South American.
