Johan Lange

Lange has overseen the removal of approximately £165,000 pounds of wages per week from the payroll in the last couple of days with Guilbert and Ings moving on. Selling or just getting rid of players has always been our weakest area of operation, so Lange must take some very recent credit.

If he can cancel Bednarek's loan (£60,000pw) and sell Sanson (£50/60,000pw) in the next few days that will be a big success for JL, in freeing up potential wages for a couple of quality signings.

Hold on, didn’t he sign said players?

I don't think Emery should be dictating who the Sporting Director is..

When Emery leaves in 5 years etc, does he take his sporting director with him, and we have to create another infrastructure?

Na I don't like that..

5 years is a very long time in football, sounds comfortable especially if it brings success?

If Lange's job includes looking after the pitches at the training ground, he shouldn't be involved in transfers at all. I think he's heavily involved.

That's why we have a chief scout, a head of recruitment and a head groundsman

Lange sits above them all

Sporting director structures a football club like the majority of the businesses we all work for, replace "sporting" director with operations director or manufacturing director

The interest for me comes from how the club gauge success in the transfer market because they're all on remits and purposes that we aren't privy to, they serve purposes they we don't agree with, Ings for example can be labelled a failure by us because we lost x amount but the hierarchy of the club knew this day was coming and actually expected to lose x + 30% more on him so they're all happy with the deal, Bailey and Traore are considered flops by some fans, doesn't mean that opinion is shared by the powers that be, there's no metric for it and if there was then again we're not privy to it, all we can judge them on are stats and overall league position of the club, I don't think lange will be judged on that

This thread is always the most amusing. Simply due to the level of ignorance of what a Sporting Directors role at a football club actually is. The majority believe he is head of recruitment and the sole decision maker on signings. This is highly amusing

It is crazy..

Lange gets a tough rap here on his signings history however according to sky sports he was instrumental in recommending and bringing kamara here.

Arguably one of our best ever free signings. Absolute class player.
