Tyrone Mings

Really quite concerned with how we proceed and react to something we havent had to deal with since we returned to the Prem - a lengthy absence of Tyrone Mings. He’s our organiser and voice at the back and generally sets the tone and leads brilliantly. 2 long term injuries and a 5-1 will completely throw anyones plans for a season back to the drawing board but look, Emery has his man, Pau, a LCB waiting in the wings so he’ll have to get that backline back functioning by hook or by crook because yesterday was embarrassing to concede so many, so easily.

Thankfully we have an elite manager who probably couldn’t sleep last night and just wants to work it all out. Massive game next week, it wouldnt be Villa to be as optimistic as we were to have things cruelly turned upside down in record time like this week has done for us. Nightmare day, but we have to try remain positive and move past yesterday. Best of luck in Tyrone’s rehab now, really sad he wont taste Europe after all his graft over the years.

And we let go of Young was who a real communicator.

The thing that worried me was Emery said 'we'll send him for the scan tomorrow', not sure if choice of words but I would hope we have a specialist(s) on retainer and get it scanned and being treated and iced etc literally as soon as possible surely waiting till the next day could have a very adverse effect?

I imagine there will have been an initial scan in hospital and immediate medical protocols taken. Tomorrow's will be more in depth and determine surgery and extent of the damage.

Just prior to the Mings injury yesterday we had a free kick that was played out wide. The ref blew up and in commentary they said it was for offside, it clearly wasn’t for offside though as Digne was miles on. Does anyone know what the reason was for the free kick against us?

I do think this will probably come back to bite us, and it didn't take captain hindsight, I didn't get it at the time, and I don't get it now.

Maybe another year was pushing it at his age, but even if he couldn't play as much, I think we'd have benefited from his leadership, and Cash wasn't exactly playing well enough you'd have looked twice at Young coming on pretty early to rally the troops

Even without an injury to Mings, he'd have been a huge asset coming on with 25 minutes to go to see out games, and we're not exactly overloaded in that position especially with our extra games.

Yeah strange one really. Definitely could have done with another year of him. The positives outweighed the negatives imho. Really would have been beneficial to have him around right now with whats happened at the club in the past week.

Swedish commentator speculated it was for obstruction. Which is funny since that didn't apply when Newcastle did it before their offside goal.

Yes, that was it. The Newcastle player did more theatrically launch himself to the floor.

Scanned today or scanned tomorrow doesn't really make any difference to the injury, regardless he'll be strapped up and all precautions taken until they know the full extent of it, can't normally get surgery until the swelling goes down anyway

They would talk about it, “Newcastle were shell shocked after an injury to a key player and didn’t get their heads up again” would be the line.

No chance, this isn't Bournemouth Vs Man Utd. No-one talked about how Newcastle had a few players out when we smashed them last season, it was all how good we were.

From our point of view we were shell shocked by the Ming's injury and already missing 3 key players in Moreno, Buendia and Ramsey, from a neutral point of view it was a highly impressive and comprehensive victory against a well fancied team

It was prior to the yellow card foul by Emi Martinez if someone wants to check for themselves (around 52:30 played in the first half). The exact same foul by Kamara on a Newcastle player as the one on Cash in their 2-1 goal that the VAR team had a chance to rewatch and ignore.

I don't care if the referees interpret fouls and offsides differently than I would. I just want some (any) consistency.

Also, once Mings has had an operation (I assume) he'll be back at the training ground, giving them all moral support. I'm sure he'll be keeping the working bits of him fit, and like Buendia will still be a positive force around the place.

Is there any actual news on this, or should we strap ourselves in for tree puns for a bit?

No need to worry about the puns. VT have turned over a new leaf.

There is no way we don't get the very best medical care money can buy.

It was actually like he was attempting the high jump with a Fosbury Flop.. One of the more ridiculous things I've seen on a football pitch which says something.

Reminiscent of when Anwar was shot and fell over.

The team was up in Newcastle though, and the match didn't finish until 7.30pm. I don't imagine that even top football clubs can arrange a scan that quickly.

Yeah we may as well get the Torres Carlos partnership going. It's the only one we've got so we need to just throw them in deep end and hopefully they click quickly

Who knows - they may turn out to be be the next McGrath/Ehiogu or Mellberg/Larsen. Let's be positive.

It’s true, Torres-Carlos is ~£60m of combined centre backs. I’d hope they were at least half decent to be honest! Let’s just thank our luck stars that we bought Torres this summer so we are not as desperate as we would have been and, in theory, have the perfect cover for Mings.

Losing Mings is a massive blow.

It really is….

Im sorry for him because he has worked his way back to the top of his game and I’m even sorrier that Villa will lose a “peak” Tyrone.

He is almost priceless to us.

I think Unai will have to work his magic here.

At least it’s the first game.
