What could he improve on?  This year, we've seen him running with the ball much more (and positive, progressive runs), we've seen he can score (good) goals with both feet.  Maybe taking up dangerous positions and helping transitions a bit more? Alleviating pressure on our defenders by taking the ball from them in deep areas?

I can't really put a finger on a weakness of his that won't come naturally through more games being played and growing stronger.. Which is a great sign.

Keep it up Jacob!

Start scoring loads of headers from set pieces like a young Tim Cahill perhaps?

Bingo.  He basically just needs more experience of dealing with pressure on the ball, but that will only come with more playing time.

The dream is for him to, essentially, develop into the type of player that Gerrard was.  Probably a good thing that Gerrard is his manager.

So Gallagher and Mitchell from Palace get nominated for Young Player of the year but Jacob is nowhere to be seen

Also in the mix are Foden Rice Sako

Does that surprise you?

The media bias is unreal. It’s a joke that 23 is considered young too. Sky just want to suck up to the Sky 6. JJ deserves lots of awards.

I think the players chosen are pretty much bang on tbh.

Disagree. Should 100% be a first teamer BUT to your point of time we should be forgiving of him when he has bad games or a poor run. He’s still learning and needs time - but he needs it learning his trade in the PL.

Unfortunately we are not in the game to give players time to develop playing first team football We cannot afford poor runs and to be forgiving. If he is not performing 100% he needs to be dropped for someone who can. Gone are the days you had time to blood youth in the first team.

Even chimpanzees can grasp delayed gratification but it is sadly beyond some of our fans…

We need to give him time for OUR long-term benefit, not his.

Edit: if the manager has listened to the fans saying “he’s not good enough, drop him” when he played him last season, he never would have developed into our player of the season this year. The example of why you show faith in a young player and keep them playing is, well, this actual player.

He's getting coached by Premier league coaches, that's the benefit!

He gets in the first team when the manager feels he's good and ready, not just to learn his trade. The pressure is on next season, if he is not performing, he won't be playing!

You have to play to improve, simple as that.

Not a real need to for us to argue about it anyway, he was our best player this season so not like it’s much of a concern in this case!

It’s like most things a balancing act. Of course players need time to develop and find/regain form. Equally we all know it’s a brutal environment with nowhere to hide.

Too much patience can get a manager the sack. Too little patience can also get a manager the sack and lose players. We’ve certainly got it right with JJ so far, as you correctly point out.

Success has many fathers, but failure is always a b&stard.

Ramsey being in the side has never hindered the team, he's always been at least competent and not looked out of place, which is a good sign for a player new out of the academy, and this season he's been one of our best if not our best player. Unless he has a massive dip in form and doesn't recover, he's going to be a regular in our starting line-up for a while to come, he's probably the player most other teams would take off us if they could have any player from our squad.

Similar with Chukwuemeka and Iroegbunam, neither have hindered the team with their presence and both have looked promisingly competent, Chukwuemeka more than that on occasions, and I'm sure we will see more of Iroegbunam's standout qualities the more game time he has.

This kid could go very very far.

Being a midfielder, having Gerrard as his manager and having Coutinho playing alongside him?

He must be pinching himself and wondering when he is going to wake up

Thats all well and good, but he has to do it himself.

I see a huge player in him....his next development for me, is to dominate the ball more.

on to the next phase.

Tims game particularly, will benefit from experience....reading the game well,  is a huge asset for a player in his position.

Got a feeling he’s going to be in the first XI quite a lot next season!
