From memory the issue wasn't the price, it was the fact we bid on the last day of the window after being given a set time frame to complete.

Thats correct his club said no as they had no time to source a replacement.  But I think he was second choice as that guy from overseas turned us down at 11th hours.

Think it was both, but I might be wrong.

Even at £7m it's steep, but acceptable I guess.

Also the fact that being a last day bid probably gave Aberdeen little or no chance to replace him.

Dont disagree but we need damn defenders more

Don't disagree but we need players comfortable on the ball and quick too in a squad.

when teams make it hard for us.....we struggle.

Yesterday showed (once again) the utter negligence of Bruce.  He has left us so exposed in central defence it's just unbelievable.

It's a position where injuries are not just likely but I would say inevitable.  And to consider Jedi as back up who is also totally injury prone is just ludicrous.

I am staggered that the people in charge didn't force his hand on this, I just cannot understand the thinking of the manager or the club to leave us with just 2 specialist players in that position (especially as Bruce considered one of those to be a right back)

It's just complete madness.

We need a new player to sign for this position before New Year's Day for me.

Hi Ferguson1. In my view McKenna, Ethan Erhahon (St Mirren) Ryan Porteous (Hibs) Harry Cochrane (Hearts) Kyle Magennis (St Mirren) Lawrence Shankland (Ayr) and few others. Not sure who is scouting for Villa in Scotland now whether employee by club, agents or freelance but worth us keeping eye on the lads above.

Even if we signed any of them and didn’t work out could easily sell them for what we paid.  Every signing is gamble in football so worth a shot.

I assume that you're part of the Smith Whatsapp group then suggesting these names on a daily basis  :flag:

I'm still shocked that nobody else was in for McGinn besides Celtic and us.  Is the SPFL's reputation that bad where clubs won't take a gamble on someone like McGinn for 4 Mil?

West Ham had £5mil bid turned down for him last January as Moyes wanted him and Hibs didn’t want sell then but he wasn’t going sign new contract with them it emerged last summer.  He would have been free talk to clubs next month for pre contract bosman for this summer if he has stayed at Hibs.

Before we signed him Brighton, Derby and couple of others were watching him. Celtic offered around £1million. Hibs was after around £3million due to 33% of figure  going to St Mirren due to sell on when he moved to Hibs from them due to training fee compo of £200k

Fabulous talent, would be delighted if we signed him.

Sure a mate. Gotta be worth a punt probably could get him for what we paid for McGinn and he is only 17 which is same age as Erhahon of St Mirren.

best get in early before premier league clubs down here start bidding.

What do you think of Josh Maja? Doing very well in league one and looks a player to me, we will need a forward (long term) who is young, with upside and will have resale value, he seems to fit the bill.

I rate maja he is little bit hit and miss (can be worked on)  but he is Sunderland’s best prospect along with Elliott Embleton ( on loan at Grimsby who I will see close today again as off port vale vs grimsby this afternoon)

very raw but so was Ollie Watkins before he went to Brentford and worked under deano.

there is a very good player there and also he is out of contract currently  in summer ;)

Brentford fans here think it's a bit of a wind up by the press/agents.  Apparently Smith didn't favor him at Brentford...

He cant get into a Brentford defence as bad as ours recently. Think its BS as Smith didnt rate him so much

He’s more of a squad filler, utility player (can play Cb and left back also left footed (the Game I went to stoke vs Brentford he played but doesn’t normally start.he did well..  If we are interested will be cheap buy to plug gaps with injuries he won’t be automatic starter unless he excelled..

i would love see Mepham or Konsa or both as I’m greedy haha but they both valued at £15mil. Mepham is slightly better out of the two but both good players.

I prefer konsa over mepham, even mepham are more talented is more ideal in solution at moment,

but price is expensive I reckon it would worth..I like mepham too both in centre half will great for villa. 30 millions not worth really .. if we promoted we go for both is good move for reckon and buy better full back and we will strong in premiership.

We should scour and scout cheap deal short term until we promote to premiership.

I like one McKenna I reckon he is good price about half price to buy as if price compare to konsa or mepham

Barbet is good talented, he is more like Chester with bit upgrade better version in my eyes as he can play header well in defensive than chester, if we get him cheap deal is better than nothing as it would be Good back up

If all not get on time find any new players so we actively trigger elphick recall.

if we go find any in summer as first choice to partner with Chester or sell Chester upgrade our two centre half (konsa and mepham) in summer and with barbet in 3rd choice it is very good deal in my option

If McKenna not work so we should try back for French defender, too long for me spelling his name.

I always like see youth player development like Clark, raven, j.b as 4th or maybe 5th choice, in normal rota

Our curriculum we don't got 3rd centre half so raven or j.b should playing with Chester rather Bree and play Bree in right back until window open.

By way merry Christmas (overdue 1 day sorry)
