Who are you to say that 😂 villatalk very funny

Do you mean who am I to comment on him needing a goal for his own mental health? I’m just someone who has read him this week saying he feels like he really needs a goal and is horribly aware how long it’s been.

Maybe ‘his own peace of mind’ would be a better use of words but I stand by the point 100%.

Went from being the biggest liability on the ball under gerrard to the most comfortable on the ball under Emery. No one can get the ball off him anymore.

Get what you're saying but he'll never be more comfortable on the ball than Dougie and Kamara.

He's just not good with short passing, while he is excellent with his long passes. So the role he's playing suits him down to a T as if he turns over possession it is either centrally ahead of our two 6s or its on the flank. Both are less dangerous places to lose the ball. Defensively he is very good and McGinn is good at taking on opponents and beating them.

I don't think his short passing is that bad. He's just not as quick minded as Dougie and Kamara when deciding what to do in tight spaces, and his ball control isn't as good, leads to him often holding onto it too long. Definitely more suited to the role he's playing now, and tbf, we need a larger period to be sure, but his decision making does look improved.

His passing is fine. His issue has always been his ability to work the ball to set himself up for the pass. Kamara and Dougie just shift the ball around effortlessly off both feet, which means they can receive under pressure and create space to release the ball.

The new role for McGinn means he naturally gets a bit more space, more time to pick the pass, and then you can see that his vision and passing are actually very good.

Gerrard was using him in completely the wrong role.

So Kovacic says that McGinn has been his toughest opponent, and a year or two ago Aubameyang said Mings. Our players get more respect from opposing players than from the media.

No denying he was poor for the year under Gerrard and was probably unfairly the fall guy. No surprise he has improved under an actual manager but also playing him with slightly less pressure as not being the heart of midfield

Also its noticeable that the cut onto his left foot and play a floated ball to the opposition full back has been cut out of his game

Another player whose ceiling has been raised by Emery's coaching. Somebody mentioned Cash on this page too and he looks to be going the same way.

Obviously, the players need credit too for rising up to the challenge, being willing to learn and adapt their games accordingly.

He definitely had more time to do that in the past when our game plan was to absorb pressure, counter and give the ball to Jack.

Or our own fans at times, could highlight lots of posts saying both McGinn and Mings need replacing/are crap.

Totally agree. SJM was off form with Villa, no doubt and I backed him citing the fact that he was Scotland’s international player, three years in a row, saying that despite his poor form, there is a player in there. Just needed his confidence back and a manager to utilise him in a role where he was getting all the accolades with Scotland. There wasn’t much support on here for me but here we are. Hopefully he and the team can kick on.
